MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A 35-year-old man was killed in a single vehicle crash that happened on Summerfield east of Douglas in Bedford Township at around 3:46 a.m. Saturday. Police say the victim, Lambertville resident Nathan James Mahrt, was driving a silver 2020 Nissan 370Z southbound on Douglas north of Summerfield. While he was making a turn in the area the Nissan went off the roadway to the south. Police say speeding was a contributing factor in the crash.

As a result of the incident the Westbound I-94 ramp to Southbound I-75 will be closed for several hours. Police were still waiting for another livestock trailer to arrive on scene from Albion as of 6 p.m. Monday. Once the additional trailer arrives officials will begin to transfer over the livestock. Some of the cows will need to be euthanized because of their injuries, police say.

Police say the crash took place near Lapeer and Wales Center roads in Wales Township. The victim’s 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling eastbound on Lapeer when it went off the road into a ditch and rolled several times ending up on its wheels, police say. As a result the victim was ejected from the vehicle. The crash is still under investigation.

On Saturday at around 3:45 a.m. police responded to the crash on I-96 westbound at Grand River in Detroit. Police say the driver was ejected from the vehicle and landed in the right middle lane. The woman was not using a seatbelt. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in the crash.
