Two academy award winners are out with new projects out this weekend, and film critic Greg Russell stopped by Live in the D to share his thoughts on them.

There aren’t many people who can fill the shoes of a superstar, especially when those shoes are of Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson. In the new show, “Young Rock”, you get a glimpse of what it was like to be Johnson at three stages of his life. From watching his father become a professional wrestling legend, to his time as a stellar college football player, you learn about the real life experiences from one of the biggest celebrities on the planet. Two of the actors who portray Johnson, Adrian Groulx and Bradley Constant, spoke to Tati Amare about their experiences on the show and working closely with The Rock to ensure they mirror his traits perfectly. Now, Kenan Thompson is the star of the new show called “Kenan”, where he is the host of a morning show and is trying to raise two daughters. Live In The D host Tati Amare chatted with Thompson about how he takes his comedy to new levels for the new show. Mr. Mayor, a new show scheduled to premiere on NBC tomorrow, Jan. 7, pairs two award-winning actors with an all-star writing team. Ted Danson and Holly Hunter step into the roles of the newly elected Mayor of Los Angeles and his politically-adept deputy. Holly Hunter talked about how the show’s premise was timely, but that it’s not just about politics. “It’s about personal relationships, power, and family dynamics.”The show’s stars also talked about how a series is only as good as it’s writers, and that the talented Tina Fey and Robert Carlock made Mr. Mayor a show worth working on. “Our business is to try and live up to the words and writing of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock,” said Danson.
