Last year, all ceremonies were canceled due to concerns over the then-new coronavirus pandemic and each high school organized drive-thru events and virtual ceremonies for its seniors. Swift confirmed that Huron, Pioneer and Skyline high schools will have traditional graduation ceremonies outdoors at Eastern Michigan University’s stadium. Tentative dates for the three ceremonies:Huron High School: Wednesday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m.Pioneer High School: Thursday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m.Skyline High School: Monday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m.Community and Pathways high schools are also planning to hold outdoor commencement ceremonies. In addition to the graduation update, Swift announced that all Class of 2021 students will receive a celebratory yard sign like last year.

Hobbs Kessler finished in 3:57.66 Sunday at the American Track League meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas, USATF said. Kessler, a student at Skyline High School in Ann Arbor, beat the previous record of 3:57.81 set by Drew Hunter in 2016. Kessler finished third in the race behind former Olympian Nick Willis and winner Takieddine Hedeilli of Texas Tech.

Elementary students around the Ann Arbor area are encouraged to submit their pandemic stories to the COVID-19: Tell Us Your Story contest. Organized by Book Bridge, a Skyline High School student organization that promotes educational equity and learning, the contest is aimed at helping children tell their own stories during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Book Bridge members will select the top three stories from each category to receive a free backpack along with their goody bag. Matthew McMorrough, another Book Bridge member, is interested in seeing different perspectives on the pandemic that contest participants will have.
