SOUTH LYON, Mich. – Fadi Zeineh, 19, of Ann Arbor has been charged with 10 offenses in the shooting death of 17-year-old Dylan Stamper of South Lyon. The boy’s father, Kevin Stamper, 43, remains in critical condition in the hospital. According to police, a woman called 911 around 9 p.m. to report a break-in and that shots had been fired. Zeineh was arrested after he turned himself in to the Ann Arbor Police Department on Friday morning. Investigators are now in search of a second suspect who was allegedly with Zeineh at the time of the shooting.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – The Klemmer family has been making waves on Facebook with their original rap videos that they’ve been creating since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Dad Bobby Klemmer’s oldest daughter, Sienna, was given a homework assignment in the spring using an online vocabulary tool that engages children through hip-hop. “One of the options was to write a rap,” said Klemmer. They also did one for Mother’s Day, one to celebrate teachers, a video to encourage people to vote, and, most recently, a Christmas rap.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – World-class saxophonist Eric Domanico would have turned 20 years old on Monday, but he unfortunately lost his battle with mental illness over the summer. Musicians across the globe are honoring the South Lyon teen while bringing awareness to depression among the youth. The childhood photos of Eric Domanico are like any other families’ -- birthday parties, playing outside, friends, family and just being a kid. To honor Eric’s memory, 40 saxophonists from around the world came together to perform with Eric in a virtual tribute. “I was with my sister-in-law when we played it,” said Claire Domanico, Eric’s mother.

Kacie Van Buskirk was a swimming and academic all-American and left South Lyon East High School with half a dozen records. Kacie Van Buskirk married the love of her life in August. First, as a record-breaking, award-winning athlete for the South Lyon East Cougars and then as an assistant coach for her high school swim team. On Saturday, Kacie Van Buskirk and her husband spent the evening with her parents.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – South Lyon Community Schools is getting push back from its open ended plan to start the school year remotely with no set time for students to return to in-person learning. The school board voted on a plan early Tuesday morning. Members of the board voted shortly after 2:30 a.m. in favor of starting the school year virtually. SOUTH LYON, Mich. – There has been a spike in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in parts of Oakland County. The health department said the rising number of cases in the South Lyon area can be traced to summer parties -- specifically graduation and prom parties. There have been 50 new cases in South Lyon alone, which is a rate of 15 cases per 10,000 people. In Lyon Township, there are 16, which is almost 23 cases per 10,000. Several of them tested positive for COVID-19 and that started a domino effect.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – The South Lyon Police Department sent out an alert that there’s a “major water main break” in the city. The water main break is in the area of Pontiac Trail and Dorothy Street, police said. Residents in the areas of Dorothy Street, Princeton Drive, University Avenue and Harvard Road are affected, according to authorities. It’s unclear how long it will take crews to fix or replace the broken water main. No additional information was provided.

South Lyon police are searching for two men wanted in connection with graffiti vandalism. The men allegedly spray painted inside a McHattie Park bathroom on June 11. SOUTH LYON, Mich. – An Arctic fox spotted in South Lyon Friday morning was taken to the Howell Nature Center for a checkup. Officers from the South Lyon Police Department came across the animal while responding to an injured dog complaint near a high school. A post on the South Lyon Police Department’s page said the fox’s owner was found. The arctic fox is also known as the white fox, polar fox and ice fox, according to the Detroit Zoo. During the winter, their fur color is white and during the summer it turns to a brownish-gray, which allows them to remain camouflaged year round.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in a number of South Lyon based crimes. Photos were captured of the people wanted for the crimes that happened Feb. 3 in South Lyon. At least a dozen unlocked vehicles were broken into and items including credit cards, wallets and chargers were taken. They attempted to use several of the stolen credit cards. Police say the three then attempted to use stolen credit cards at McDonalds and Walmart in Canton in addition to a Farmington Hills Speedway.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – Crews were battling a fire at a restaurant in Lyon Township on Tuesday morning. The Lyon Township Fire Department says they’re assisting, along with the South Lyon Fire Department, on a structure fire at Lyon Cantina, a Mexican restaurant on Pontiac Trail and 9 Mile Road. “First arriving units reported flames through the roof. Units were making an interior attack, however conditions worsened and crews were pulled from the building.”Oakland County Sheriff’s office tell Local 4 that flames were spotted on the roof. Video from the scene shows smoke billowing from the roof.

SOUTH LYON, Mich. – A vandal or vandals are targeting Christmas light displays at homes in South Lyon and neighboring Green Oak Township. Mike Chezick puts up a dazzling display at his house each year, bringing joy to the neighborhood. “I find it really sad that someone would come out here and cut wires and be a Grinch for Christmas displays. I felt bad for them,” Chezick said. Chezick posted about the vandalism on the Nextdoor app, only to find out at least three other houses had their decorations vandalized as well.
