The team was originally not allowed to practice for three weeks, but that changed to a two-game suspension for the players. This absolutely feels like retaliation against a young student athlete who called them on the carpet and they didn’t like it,” said Skene’s father, Doug Skene. DETROIT – The Midnight Golf Program has done wonders for African Americans in a sport that’s dominated by White males; however, that’s something the program is hoping to change. “Midnight Golf started 20 years ago with only 17 students, and as of today, we’ve had 3,500 students,” said founder Renee Fluker. For 20 years, the Midnight Golf Program has been taking kids off the streets and placing golf clubs in their hands -- giving them a different alternative in life. Fluker said the program started when her son had a rough time being the only person of color on his high school golf team. The decision was made Wednesday despite other schools in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference continuing on with their sports. Mat Ishbia -- the CEO of United Wholesale Mortgage, 1998 Spartan basketball walk-on and 2000 NCAA champion -- recently donated $32 million to his alma mater. Twenty million dollars of the donation will help change the face of Michigan State, expanding the football center and improving the auditorium, locker rooms and dining halls. “This is not only a historic day but a tear-jerking, proud day for me,” said MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo. DETROIT – The University of Detroit Mercy has pulled the plug on the rest of the women’s basketball season amid complaints that the coach is abusing her players. The university announced Thursday night that the women’s basketball season is over, after some serious claims against the program. “Emotional abuse, physical abuse in terms of going way over the allotted hours the NCAA provides. The allegations were made by parents of the 14 players on the team, saying the problem is with first-year coach Ann Marie Gilbert. We have talked with all players and members of our women’s basketball program about their concerns.

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons have had their share of mishaps in the fourth quarter lately, so it was no surprise when their game against each other was full of them. Ultimately, the Lions prevailed 23-22 on Matthew Stafford’s 11-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Hockenson with no time remaining, but the victory wasn’t secure until Matt Prater made the extra point, and he had to kick it from 15 yards further back because of a penalty. It looked like Detroit might not get the ball back at all, but Atlanta’s Todd Gurley scored a touchdown with 1:04 left when the Falcons could have run the clock all the way down for a winning field goal. EAST LANSING, Mich. – Merritt Norvell Jr., the first Black athletic director at Michigan State University, has died. “The thoughts of the entire Michigan State Athletics family are with the family and friends of Merritt Norvell,” said Bill Beekman, Michigan State's current AD, in a statement. “Beyond his contributions at Michigan State, his impact was felt across college athletics, including at the national level. Michigan State reached the Final Four in volleyball, hockey and men's basketball during Norvell's tenure. “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Merritt Norvell," NCAA President Mark Emmert said.

This was a victory the Detroit Lions probably needed more than they would admit. Detroit (2-3) made this one look easy, somewhat surprising considering the Lions had lost six straight in which they led by double digits. The Detroit Red Wings signed free agent center Vladislav Namestnikov to a $4 million, two-year contract on Sunday. The Red Wings announced the move on their website. The 27-year-old is reunited with Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman, who held the same title with Tampa Bay when the Lightning selected Namestnikov with the 27th pick in the 2011 draft. Initially, it was unclear whether the game between the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints would take place this afternoon. The uncertainty came after Burton tested positive for COVID-19 Saturday on the flight to Detroit, NBC reported. Everyone who came in contact with him including seven players were tested. The tests of those players also came back negative.

DETROIT Former Portland Trail Blazers star Cliff Robinson has died. Robinsons death was confirmed by the UConn Huskies on Saturday. He played for the Detroit Pistons from 2001 to 2003. In addition to playing for the Detroit Pistons and Portland Trail Blazers, he was also with the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors and New Jersey Nets during that period. In Tuesdays MLS is Back Tournament Final matchup between the Portland Timbers and Orlando City SC assistant referee Kathryn Nesbitt made history as the first female official to work the final of a MLS competition. Nesbitt becomes the first woman to officiate an MLS final, after serving as the reserve assistant referee for the 2018 MLS Cup Final. She has also worked as an assistant referee and AVAR throughout the MLS is Back Tournament, with this assignment taking her game tally for the competition into double figures. Not only is she a soccer referee but she also has a PhD. She has been a soccer referee since 2002.

Myisha Hines-Allen, of the Washington Mystics, and Breanna Stewart, of the Seattle Storm, have been named the first conference players of the week for the 2020 WNBA season. Hines-Allen averaged 17 points, nine rebounds and two assists to earn Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Last season, Hines-Allen averaged two points per game, but this season that has jumped to 17 points per game. Stewart, the 2018 MVP, averaged 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists to earn Western Conference Player of the Week. Stewart is in her third year in the league and has bounced back tremendously after rupturing her achilles last season.

DETROIT After a troubling opening day Friday, the Tigers offensive switch turned on Saturday. Cron getting the first run with an RBI double allowing the Tigers to get on the board first. With a game that couldve gone either way it was the top of the 9th that showed great adjustment for JaCoby Jones. Romine being able to lead off with a single it seemed the Tigers initial game plan was to play small ball and play it safe with a bunt. Jones sends it over the left field fence for a two-run home run to give the Tigers a 6-4 lead in the top of the 9th.

In this third round against the Reds, it was an impressive display of clutch hitting and impressive itching. Once again, the Tigers were able to strike first courtesy of a solo shot over the right center fence by Niko Goodrum. Spencer Turnbull was the starting pitcher for the Tigers and pitched five innings only allowing one earned run and got eight strikeouts. Cron would send a two-run home run over Nick Castellanos in right field putting the Tigers ahead 3-1. The Tigers would win the contest 3-2 and get the better hand of the series over the Reds winning 2 out of the 3 games.

The young team was ready to face off against the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ball Park. With no fans in attendance, it seems to be a different atmosphere both players and fans arent used to yet. For the Tigers it was a game of early trouble. Cron would pull a shot for a solo home run, this would be the only run the Tigers would be able to get. From then it became a Reds dominant game with a solo home run from Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas.

Meanwhile, the Korean baseball League is up and running and playing games. Baseball fans are getting their fix on Korean baseball. Romak believes if they can play baseball there, then they can figure out how to play baseball here. The Korean league plans to play a full 144-game season, with playoffs beginning in November.
