Police said the victims -- 21-year-old Shaniya Todd and 18-year-old Shakiya Todd -- were sisters and were killed when a fight turned into a shooting. They said they’re upset and confused, but hopeful that the information police released on the suspect could lead to an arrest. Police released a photo of a suspect wanted in connection with a Dec. 18, 2020 fatal shooting. Police said he shot and killed Shakiya Todd and her older sister, Shaniya Todd, who also is a young mother.

While the move is expected to give the nearly 80-year-old monument a new lease on life, there's a huge challenge. Veterans need help to raise money to physically move the monument. A fundraising campaign has been started at the Department of Michigan American Legion to get the monument to its new home. The monument is expected to be placed at Milligan State Park on Detroit's riverfront.
