The two sixth graders have grown up figuring out ways to help others and when they saw the news reports of health care workers in need, they wanted to help. They saw news stories about health care workers who were struggling to get the personal protection equipment they needed. Stella and Maybree took it all in, not as 11-year-olds, but as humans who simply care about other humans. They decided to raise money to help Henry Ford Health System’s COVID emergency relief efforts.

A frequent refrain from Black creatives in Italian fashion is that they are often the only person of color in the workplace. Stella chafes at the Africa Hub, which promoted five brands during Milan Fashion Week in February. While she won't show in September, she has asked Capasa to host a Black Lives Matter event to kick off "the immediate launch of a long-overdue fashion cultural reform.''

The attack happened at Roseville Middle School Thursday, on school grounds, one week before the start of school in that community. Roseville police said they are investigating the incident and intend to send it to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, which could result in charges. Stella said her 11-year-old son was in a classroom with other incoming middle school students with only the supervision of 8th grade team leaders. Her son, despite the assault, is anxious for the start of school next week.
