A big mess ensues in Royal Oak alongside the construction project on I-75 as a stretch of Stephenson Highway between 11 Mile Road, and Lincoln is open, but residents wonder if it’s safe to drive.

A Madison Heights man has been charged for stealing items from cars throughout Royal Oak, police said.

A husband and wife who were driving 5 mph with a flat tire on a Troy road were arrested after police found fentanyl in the glove box, authorities said.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – An 18-year-old driver was killed overnight when he fled Royal Oak police at high speeds and crashed violently into a pole, according to officials. They terminated the pursuit at the border of Royal Oak, near 11 Mile and John R roads. Royal Oak officers saw the car, which had no license plate, heading west on 11 Mile Road near Stephenson Highway, according to authorities. Officers called Royal Oak firefighters, who used the jaws of life to free the man from the wreckage. Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Royal Oak officials are investigating the crash.

TROY, Mich. Maple Road under I-75 will be closed Friday night for bridge work. Maple Road will be closed in both directions beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and is expected to reopen by 9 a.m. Saturday as crews from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) work on the bridge above. Eastbound traffic will be rerouted to Stephenson Highway, Big Beaver and John R. roads. Westbound Maple Road traffic will be directed to John R., Big Beaver and Rochester roads. MDOT says I-75 traffic should not be impacted.
