DETROIT – A Livonia woman has been charged with trying to steal COVID vaccines from the TCF Center in Detroit, where she worked as a nurse, officials said. Saeedeh Elahi, 41, of Livonia, is accused of placing two syringes filled with the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine and two vaccination cards in her pocket while working at the TCF Center on Monday (March 15). Another nurse saw Elahi put the vaccines in her pocket and reported it immediately, according to authorities. Elahi was working for a contractor and had been hired to administer the vaccine to Detroiters. State and local governments have been doing their level best to get vaccines to as many people as possible.

DETROIT – Police said that a nurse has been arrested for trying to steal doses of the coronavirus vaccine from the TCF Center in Detroit. UPDATE: Livonia woman charged with trying to steal COVID vaccines while working as nurseAnother nurse witnessed the attempted theft and reported it immediately, police said. The nurse accused of the attempted theft was working for a contractor and had been hired to give the vaccine to Detroit residents. The nurse is accused of taking two syringes of the Pfizer vaccine and putting them in her pocket. Detroit Chief Operating Officer Hakim Berry said that the vaccine is carefully guarded.

DETROIT – Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) has been named the medical director for a mass vaccination site at Detroit’s Ford Field. Officials said Henry Ford will “provide onsite expertise and oversight for the vaccine administrations and medical care as well support for the site’s operations.” Other support partners include FEMA, Wayne County, City of Detroit, Ford Field, the Detroit Lions and Meijer. The health system held a similar position at the TCF Center in 2020. “Henry Ford Health System is thrilled to serve as the health system partner for this mass vaccination effort, joining our local, state and federal partners to expand vaccination opportunities, especially in our underserved communities,” said Dr. Steven Rockoff, service chief of Emergency Medicine at Henry Ford Health System. It was initially reported in February that officials from FEMA were touring Ford Field and planning to turn the home of the Detroit Lions into a vaccination site.

DETROIT – The city of Detroit is taking major steps to get seniors in the city vaccinated. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced Wednesday an expansion of the city’s “Good Neighbor” program to make it easier to get vaccinated with an incentive to help others. Anyone who is 55-years or older who drives a Detroit senior citizen to get vaccinated can get vaccinated too -- regardless of where they live. Active members of the clergy who live or work in Detroit and whose ministry brings them into face-to-face contact with congregation members. Detroit residents 18+ with intellectual and developmental disabilities, caregivers of those residents and home healthcare providers if they travel in the same vehicle during the appointment.

DETROIT – Detroit residents who are 60 and older and have certain chronic medical conditions can now get the COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Mike Duggan said. “Detroit is committed to making vaccines available to all our most vulnerable residents,” Duggan said. Eligible residents should make appointments at TCF starting Wednesday by calling 313-230-0505. Last week, Duggan made residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their live-in caregivers eligible for the vaccine. Duggan announced a program to provide $2 rides to the TCF center for Detroit residents who don’t have their own transportation.

Due to the major snowfall and expected difficult driving conditions, 3,000 COVID vaccination appointments scheduled for Tuesday at the TCF Center will be moved to Saturday. DETROIT – Three thousand COVID-19 vaccination appointments scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the TCF Center will be moved to Saturday, Feb. 20 due to severe weather, according to the city of Detroit. “Due to the major snowfall and expected difficult driving conditions, 3,000 COVID vaccination appointments scheduled for Tuesday at the TCF Center will be moved to Saturday. WIXOM, Mich. – Michael Joseph Foy, a Marine from Wixom, has been charged with attacking a police officer with a hockey stick during the deadly siege on the U.S. Capitol Building that left six dead. A video that captured a violent riot breaking into the U.S. Capitol Building as D.C. Metro Police tried to keep them out went viral worldwide. “It’s a hockey stick. He’s hitting him very very hard,” Dolunt said of the viral video. At some point, Dolunt said he had been radicalized and the hockey stick was brought for a reason.

WIXOM, Mich. – A viral video is being used as a huge piece of evidence by the FBI against a Wixom man. The video is from the deadly siege on the U.S. Capitol Building that left six dead. The FBI said Foy beat a D.C. Metro Police officer while the officer was on the ground outside the Capitol. DETROIT – Seniors across Wayne County are struggling to get their doses of the coronavirus vaccine. Anita and Dan Siefer said they’re prisoners in their Wayne County home. “My wife and I are anxious,” said former Wayne County Commissioner Gary Woronchak. “We have been hunkered down for months.”Woronchak has also been struggling trying to schedule a vaccine appointment. They will start with four stores in Wayne County, but they haven’t revealed which ones.

DETROIT – Huntington Bancshares Incorporated -- the parent company of Huntington Bank -- and TCF Financial Corporation -- the parent company of TCF National Bank -- announced Sunday the companies would combine in an all-stock merger, with a total market value of about $22 billion. The company said it will have two headquarters, one in Detroit and one in Columbus, Ohio. The Detroit headquarters will employee at least 800 people, about three times more than TCF had planned. Columbus will remain the headquarters for the holding company and the consumer bank. With the removal of the TCF branding, the TCF Center -- recently renamed in late 2019 -- will be renamed the Huntington Center.

Detroit Election advisor Chris Thomas is an expert in Michigan’s elections. In 2020, he was an advisor for Detroit’s election and since Election Day, he’s been spending his time debunking claims of fraud. “That’s a marvelous thing.”He said the 2020 General Election votes are safe and the election is over. While no hard evidence has been discovered to support widespread voter fraud claims in the 2020 election, plenty of people have signed their name to sworn testimony. Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani has targeted Detroit in recent weeks, despite there being no evidence of fraud in the city.

DETROIT – President Donald Trump is set to hold a rally Saturday in Georgia in support of Republicans in January’s Senate runoff elections. The Electoral College deadline is Tuesday and Detroit city officials are still fending off challenges in court. Officials with the city of Detroit issued a response that read in part, “Few lawsuits breathe more lies than this one. None of them have any academic acclaim,” said Detroit Election advisor Chris Thomas. Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani has targeted Detroit in recent weeks, despite there being no evidence of fraud in the city.

DETROIT – The Wayne County Board of Canvassers will move forward with certifying election votes after the Michigan Court of Appeals rejected a request to delay certification. A Wayne County judge has denied a motion from Republican challengers to halt certification of Detroit election results. In a ruling issued Friday, Wayne County Judge Timothy Kenny said plaintiffs' interpretation of events at TCF Center were “incorrect and not credible.”“Plaintiffs' affiants did not have full understanding of TCF absent ballot tabulation.” Judge Kenny denied all motions, including one for an independent audit. Previous: Hundreds provide testimonies -- but no real evidence -- in Trump campaign lawsuit to stop certification of Michigan election resultsThere is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election. Kenny twice has turned down injunctions in Wayne County, a Democratic stronghold. Those who submitted affidavits questioned ballot transportation and most often were either not allowed to enter or saw others not allowed to enter.

Were poll watchers kicked out of counting rooms? Poll watchers being kicked out of counting rooms is not true. According to Detroit’s election commissioner, there were more than the legal limit of watchers inside the TCF Center from both Democratic and Republican parties. Claims made in a similar way were dismissed as hearsay by a state judge in a lawsuit last week. There are also claims about poll workers behaving badly like the ones made in an 11-minute video circulating online and being promoted by state Republicans.

DETROIT – Hoping to halt a statewide certification of Michigan election results, the latest lawsuit by President Donald Trump’s campaign submitted hundreds of claims asserting GOP poll watchers were excluded from counting rooms or saw illegal activity in the count in the state. The Trump campaign is suing Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson along with the Wayne County and the Michigan Board of Canvassers, which are in charge of reviewing elections. Inside the lawsuit are 234 pages of affidavits from people claiming to have been Republican poll watchers who witnessed or were told about misconduct by mostly Detroit ballot counters. Both the Trump and Joe Biden campaigns have started asking Michigan voters specifically to help fund these upcoming legal battles. Democrats have already asked to be part of the Court of Claims appeal, opposing the Trump campaign.

DETROIT – Officials with President Donald Trump’s campaign said they will continue to fight the 2020 General Election results with lawsuits. Michigan is the center of litigation from the Trump campaign, which filed a federal lawsuit in the western district of Michigan, despite the claims coming out of Michigan’s Wayne County. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday night, alleges -- without evidence -- there were widespread irregularities in Michigan’s election and ballot-counting process. Many of the claims are similar to a case that was dismissed by the state court of claims last week. Many of the claims are similar to other unfounded fraud claims from past elections.

“We have a whistleblower and now we have 131 affidavits talking about irregularities and problems that were happening in Detroit. According to court filings the DNC tried to intervene when the suit was initially filed but the court denied the request saying the Trump case wouldn’t move on. In its appeal the DNC wrote that as long as the Trump case continues, they should be allowed to intervene. The process must be complete by Nov. 17 when county boards have to send totals to the Secretary of State. On Nov. 23, the state Board of Canvassers meet to conduct another review of the totals and hear more challenges.

DETROIT – With deadlines fast approaching, Michigan state Republicans and President Donald Trump’s campaign are hoping to change the outcome of the election in a few ways. According to Michigan state law, a recount has to be triggered when a candidate wins by less than 2,000 votes, which doesn’t apply to this year. It can also be petitioned by a campaign as long as they have a reasonable chance to win. “I think it’s important to dispel the notion legislative leaders in Michigan can choose different electors,” the statement read. While many of these options could muddy the waters election, experts think they’ll do little, if anything, to impact the election in Michigan.

DETROIT – With freezing temperatures on the way Father Tim McCabe with the Pope Francis Center says he has found a solution to helping the homeless though a pandemic. The solution includes the lower level of the TCF Center. But if the numbers continue to grow more adjustments will have to be made. But if we continue to see the numbers that we’re seeing, we’ll have to rotate them through,” McCabe added. The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan has risen to 216,804 as of Monday, including 7,640 deaths, state officials report.

DETROIT – Republican lawmakers have officially launched an investigation into the outcome 2020′s election. READ: Whitmer discusses election subpoena, Biden’s cabinet and gives stark COVID warning“I think it is time to embrace the will of the people," Whitmer said. “There have not been any evidence of anything that will undermine the validity of this election and it’s time to move forward.”Whitmer spoke on the claims Sunday morning. “We ran a very drama free election.”The Michigan Legislature issued a subpoena to State Election officials on Saturday, requesting any and all documentation relating to the voting process -- especially information on Absentee ballots. Former State Elections Director, Chris Thomas, was brought in to oversee counting in Detroit.

DETROIT – Protests in Detroit remained mostly peaceful outside of the TCF Center in Downtown Detroit, but police dealt with multiple threats over the election. A woman claimed a bomb was left near the TCF Center, and a Wayne County building closed over a threat to go in the building and steal ballots. Tensions continue in Detroit Friday night, just days after the election -- from the TCF Center to the county Treasurer’s Office in Greektown. Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon said officials closed the Treasurer’s Office early Friday afternoon. On Wednesday, just one day after the election, supporters incumbent President Donald Trump protested outside the TCF Center, demanding to be let inside where poll workers were counting ballots.

DETROIT – Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel is calling for an investigation into the ballot-counting process in Michigan. “Today (Friday), we announce the Republican National Committee has deployed legal teams in four states, including Michigan, to investigate vote tabulations in those states," McDaniel said in a press conference. This week at the TCF Center in Detroit, Republican poll watchers claimed they were tossed from the building and not allowed to observe the ballot-counting process. Officials have said that individuals from both the Democratic and Republican parties were present during the ballot-counting process at the TCF Center. In response, Thomas issued a statement saying, “The accusations are wrong and reveal the person making them doesn’t know Michigan’s election process.

DETROIT – A steady stream of protesters lined up in front of the TCF Center in Detroit to rally Friday in support of President Donald Trump. Roughly 200 people demanded a review of Michigan’s election results. Nearly 2.8 million votes were cast for Former Vice President Joe Biden, who won the state. The crowd is questioning the results and have protested nearly everyday as results still come in from uncalled states. Any of the five states still up for grabs would call the election for Biden.

DETROIT – Police investigated a bomb threat Friday near the TCF Center in Downtown Detroit. According to the Detroit Police Department, nothing has been found to verify the threat. Police received a call at about 5 p.m. on Friday from Michigan State Police saying that a woman claimed that a bomb had been left in the area. After a sweep near the TCF Center up to the Coleman Young Municipal Center, Detroit police say they did not find anything as of 6:22 p.m. Friday. View more: Wayne County News

What motivated these groups to come out may have been the counting of the ballots here but there were multiple ideologies. The central issue was the election between President Donald Trump and Joe Biden, but there were also rants about globalist conspiracies, anti-government, anti-mask and Black Lives Matter. DETROIT – Two people are describing their experience working inside the TCF Center amid the lawsuits and chaos surrounding the counting of ballots. There were between around 650 and 700 paid and trained vote counters inside at any given time. When the crowd chanted, “stop the count” many of the workers inside were afraid. People who were inside said both official challengers and some of the poll watchers were yelling slurs at the poll counters.

In Arizona, as Joe Biden’s lead began to dwindle, Trump supporters showed up and chanted, “continue the count.”Local 4 spoke to Oakland University professors Dave Dulio, the director of Civic Engagement and professor of political science and professor Erin Dwyer from the Department of History. Dulio said he believes the chanters misspoke and meant to address the president’s unfounded assertion that there were not enough Republican observers watching the count. “You’re not seeing internal consistency,” she said. “You’re seeing a different problem.”She spoke to some of her friends who were in the building at the time and said this was not about continuing democracy, but interrupting it. “Yelling racial epithets at people in that building.”

LANSING, Mich. – More than 5.5 million people voted in Michigan's presidential election — the most ever and the highest percentage of voting-age residents to cast a ballot in 60 years. The number of voters — in a pandemic — smashed the previous record of 5 million in 2008. Absentee voting — now available to all voters under a 2018 constitutional amendment — surged, to nearly 3.5 million ballots during the virus outbreak. She spoke the same day a Michigan judge dismissed a lawsuit by President Donald Trump’s campaign in a dispute over whether Republican challengers had access to the handling of absentee ballots. Much of the dispute centered on the TCF Center in Detroit, where pro-Trump protesters gathered while absentee ballots were being counted.

Several battleground states have yet to declare a winner as ballots are still being counted and those counts could last through Friday. Many people were trying to get inside the counting locations to try to stop officials from counting. In Michigan, 82 of the 83 counties have completed counting their ballots. The Trump team had filed a lawsuit in Michigan to stop the counting, because they felt that it was not fair and legal. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said that the counting was completed and there wasn’t anything to stop.

In Michigan, citizens are allowed to observe the ballot-counting process to ensure everything is being counted fairly and accurately. Biden support Yolanda Moore was part of the crowd at the TCF Center Wednesday. Both Benson and Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey said the demonstrations at the TCF Center were just distractions from completing the counting.
