It is indeed a sunny day when you won’t need to know how to get to Sesame Street, because they are coming to you! All of your favorite characters from Sesame Street including Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Abby Cadabby are coming to the Fox Theatre for Sesame Street Live: Make Your Magic.

We’ve all heard of gender reveals, and how creative hosts can get. Well, the “Live in the D,” crew put their creativity skills to the test and came up with some pretty cool pumpkin designs. Just in time for Halloween, pumpkin designs by Jason, Tati, Michelle and April were revealed live on the show. By the looks of these cool designs, it looks like the crew understood the assignment.

Eric Benét is a household name. Hit songs like, “Spend My Life With You”, “Love Don’t Love Me”, and “Never Want To Live Without You”, can guarantee a sing-along. The R&B singer is back in Detroit and joined Tati on today’s episode of “Live In The D” to talk about his upcoming film projects and his performance in the D tonight.

Tati’s lived in Detroit for over 5 years now, so she knows a thing or two about where to go in Detroit.

You may not be the only one dreaming up your next big vacation after COVID. Industry insiders say there will be a huge boom in spending for vacations, in a trend they call “revenge travel.” Tati called on friends of the show Lauren Crocker, Jason Hall, and AJ Williams to find out what their next big travel plans will be.

When it comes to style and fashion, there are plenty of women who have made their mark in the industry. This month Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan is going to highlight some women he thinks changed fashion as we know it and he’s starting with Donna Karan. This is a collection of just 7 items that you can mix and match together to make outfits for any occasion. Jon illustrated how this can be done with clothing items he found at the store “Shops On Top” in Detroit. You can see that, and learn what to do if you want to take this approach with your wardrobe, by watching the video above.

First, Mimi talked about her inspiration, Maya Angelou. “I always think about her when I think about powerful women in history.”Next, everyone talked about their favorite women in film. Jason and Mimi both talked about Cicely Tyson, who stayed true to herself by only taking roles in films that highlighted African American women. AdFinally, Tati asked about the women in the music industry that inspire everyone. Mimi picked Aretha Franklin, an icon who’s music transcends audiences, and who has performed at multiple presidential inaugurations.

They say Laughter is magic but so is actual magic, and you can experience both at Genitti’s in Northville this weekend. Live In The D friend Jasen Magic will be performing there this weekend. He joined Tati and Jason from his “parent’s basement” to talk all about his upcoming show this weekend at Genitti’s Dinner Theater, which promises to be an evening of fun and magic in a socially distanced setting. Jasen gave Tati and Jason of preview of what people can expect. February is National snack food month and we invited some friends of Live In The D to get on the show to chat about everyone’s snack habits. Joining host Tati was AJ Williams, managing editor of the Michigan Chronicle, Blaine Fowler, host of Blaine Fowler Morning Show, and Vanessa Cohen, co-founder of Cohen brand. First, Tati wanted to know everyone’s take on what’s better: sweet or salty snacks? While only Blaine said he really loves sweet snacks, everyone agreed that salty snacks like chips and popcorn are the way to go. AJ recommended pork rinds, which she said she switched to since it’s a great crunchy, salty snack, and it is full of protein but doesn’t have the carbs that chips have.

That is what happened to me after Tati recommended I try the Senegalese food for the first time at Maty’s African cuisine. Maty’s African Cuisine was the only Senegalese restaurant in Metro Detroit at the time it opened. They wanted to own their own restaurant, and finally, after years of working at chain restaurants, Amady and Maty were able to open up Maty’s African Cuisine on Detroit’s north side. Tanci is the CEO and Founder of Turn Up Fitness, a program meant to motivate people to get active and dance away those pounds. Since COVID hit, a lot has changed, but the Turn Up community has survived and even thrived together. You used to be able to find Turn Up classes at some local gyms, but currently they are all online. Just search for “Turn Up With Tanci.”So how does Tanci stay motivated to keep fit? If you want to Turn Up with Tanci she is hosting a live dance workout tonight at 5:30 pm, and on Saturday at 11 am on her YouTube channel.

The local music group Young Men for Christ is getting into the holiday spirit this year with covers of some iconic Christmas tunes. Tati got the chance to chat with the leader of the group, Franklin Lance McGee, about what kind of music they’ve been working on during the pandemic. He says that the album takes the group in a new direction, trying out styles that are closer to the roots of gospel quartet music. McGee said that the break allowed them to blend all of the group members’ ideas together for their latest album. For their Music Monday performance, the group performed a Christmas song blend that McGee said has a “churchy” feel to it.

Today on Live in the D, Local 4 Style Editor Jon Jordan showed us a quick, easy way to change the look of a room. Now, he’s found a way to design the space without making it look like an afterthought. The main feature of Jordan’s project uses curio frames he says you can find in home decorating stores, or for cheap in thrift stores. After an hour, Tati and Jason checked back in to see the finished project. To change up the look of the space, Jordan said you can throw a few plants into the frames, which also serve as handy shelves.

“This Is Us” is back with their season premiere tomorrow night. Metz said things will pick up right where they left off at the end of Season 4. Copeland joined the show today alongside Boys and Girls Clubs’ Youth of the Year Josias Reynoso to talk about the impact the program has had on their lives. Copeland joined the Boys & Girls Clubs at 11. “It has given me an understanding of what it means to be a leader” Copeland said. Josias Reynoso was chosen from more than 4 million club members to become the Boys & Girls Clubs Youth of the Year. He says the Boys & Girls Clubs developed him into a leader rather than a follower, and he hopes to be able to help other kids find their potential.

Known for their popular tres leches cake, made with three kinds of milk, rum, and soaked in a delicious sauce, Mexicantown Bakery showed off some of their other baked goods to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The business is family owned, and sister of the owner Cecilia Benedict spoke with Live in the D live from Mexicantown. Benedict said that food is an important part of Mexican and other Hispanic cultures because it brings communities together in everything from celebration to mourning. Customers don’t have to go far for their drinks either since Mexicantown Bakery also serves a variety of Hispanic coffee and espresso beverages. Tati personally recommended the tres leches cake and cuban coffee as her go-to orders from the bakery.

Many of you see us out and about around town, especially Tati Amare asking people questions for Talking with Tati. Now, we are flipping the script and instead we are having you to ask us anything! The whole team of Jason Carr, Tati Amare, Kila Peeples and Michelle Oliver, answered two of viewer questions today. First question was for Tati and Jason from Lynn Rushing, she asked them where is there favorite place to go in Michigan and why? The other question was from Katrina Meyers, who asked Kila and Michelle what is the best life advice someone has giving you.

Good nutrition is always important but especially during these times. Knol also talked about what healthy foods are in season right now. “There’s a lot of things in season right now from your berries to tomatoes and cucumbers. When picking fruits that taste the best Knol advised to focus on your senses. Tati's Take on Natural HairI LOVE my natural hair and feel most like my true self when my curls are flowing freely. The natural hair movement has been exploding in the past fifteen years but the politics of natural hair was brought to the mainstream in the 2009 Chris Rock documentary "Good Hair". Rock's purpose for creating the film was to start an in-depth conversation around of black hair and hopefully change the narrative. The 3rd Annual Detroit Natural Hair Expo will host panel discussions, hair workshops and demonstrations as well as feature local and national hair care brands geared toward black hair.
