'If' and 'Back In Black' are in theaters this weekend

The future of Royal Oak’s Main Art Theatre is in the hands of the planning commission, with a final meeting planned for Tuesday night.

Christmas weekend is typically a time when big movies are released and that isn’t changing this year despite the pandemic. Movie Reviewer Greg Russell joined Tati for Reel Talk and shared the 5 new movies you can see. Wonder Woman 1984 is finally out in theaters and streaming on HBO Max. Gal Gadot reprises her role as Wonder Woman and Kristen Wiig joins the cast at the supervillain Cheetah. In the movie, Wonder Woman is living among mortals and keeping to herself, but that changes when she once again must use all her powers to save innocent lives.

DETROIT – The effects of the coronavirus pandemic are being felt everywhere -- especially in the creative industries and live theater. A lot of people were affected when the lights went out on live theater. For nine months, theaters have been dark, seats have been empty and they have no concrete day to return. Detroit Public Theater got creative a few months back. It produced two shows with a NY Public Theater and broadcast them on public TV.

Time for the weekend which means new movies! Jason Carr sat down with movie reviewer Greg Russell to talke about all about what you can watch this weekend. Greg gave the film 4 out of 5 reels. Ryan Hansen gets in a sticky mess when he goes to Thanksgiving dinner at an ex’s house while on a date with her mom. Greg recommends watching this once the family has left after Thanksgiving dinner and everyone wants to unwind.

Movie theaters have been closed for more than six months in Michigan due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Whitmer signed an order to allow theaters to reopen on Oct. 9, with restrictions in place. Emagine Theatres says it will reopen its Michigan theaters on Oct. 9, with a special free ticket promotion for frontline workers through Oct. 15. To redeem this offer, please bring your valid work I.D., badge, nametag, etc., to the theatre when you purchase tickets. *Dates and times may vary, Michigan Emagine locations only open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The Royal Starr Arts Institute, a nonprofit arts organization, will be hosting its annual film festival, giving a platform to independent filmmakers from all over Michigan, The United States and abroad. While theatres are temporarily closed, the annual festival will be held virtually, with limited drive-in screenings. The Royal Starr Film Festival will be held from Thursday-Sunday at Emagine Theatre in Novi, located at 44425 West 12 Mile Road. The 1.57 million pound ($1.96 billion) package for museums, galleries, theaters, movie theaters, heritage sites and music venues includes almost 900 million pounds in grants and more than 200 million pounds in loans. Details of how the money will be distributed have not been released, but leaders of arts organizations breathed a sigh of relief at the announcement. But social distancing rules and an almost total absence of tourists mean they face a big financial hit. Theaters and concert venues have not been told when they can admit audiences, and several have already announced they will close permanently. I just want to be a bit realistic about the challenges of getting us back to that point any time soon.
