Michigan’s historic Mackinac Island is a vehicle-free land. So how in the world do we get a news truck onto the island every year?

The Great Lakes are the world’s largest collective bodies of fresh water, and feature many picturesque nature spots, so it always has seemed like a natural area for cruise ships to venture.

It was really a wonderful day in Detroit as the last of the ice broke away in the Detroit River with the sunshine and a gentle breeze with temperatures in the mid to upper 50s; people are ready for spring.

A winter storm warning is in effect through Thursday and snow is continuously falling and building up across Metro Detroit.

Bitter cold conditions are responsible for causing 75 active water main breaks in Detroit, including one today (Jan. 26) that shut down I-94.Traffic has been stopped along westbound I-94 while work crews shut off the water main that sprung a leak, sending water gushing down the freeway.

Heavy snow moves out of Metro Detroit, making way for bitterly cold conditions with icy roads a concern overnight and into the morning as temperatures plummet overnight.

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – When the new COVID-19 restrictions were announced over the weekend, Dooley’s in Roseville announced they were hosting one final party ahead of the shutdown. Under the new three-week restriction, indoor dining is no longer allowed at bars and restaurants. Local 4′s Tim Pamplin stopped by to see how the city was trying to keep everything safe. The president and CEO of Henry Ford Health System said Macomb County is a “pocket” of Michigan that struggles with COVID-19 mask compliance. ROMULUS, Mich. – Javon Stacks said 640 animals, most of them hedgehogs, were seized during a raid in Romulus back in November of last year. At the time, prosecutors said those animals were neglected and accused him of being a “bootleg zookeeper.” Local 4′s Tim Pamplin caught up with Stacks on Friday after a judge said he should get the animals back. He said more than 200 died after they were seized during the investigation. “I loved animals ever since I was a little kid,” he said.

DETROIT – When a little boy with autism had his bicycle stolen a group of Detroit police officers knew they had to do something to help. The child’s parents couldn’t afford to replace the stolen bike, so officers from Detroit’s 6th Precinct stepped in and pooled their money. Local 4′s Tim Pamplin got a look at the special surprise. EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A 17-year-old mother was found shot to death inside an Eastpointe home Wednesday. The shooting happened on Rein Avenue, north of Nine Mile Road. Police said the mother was visiting her boyfriend when shots were fired. Police are investigating the circumstance of the shooting, but one person of interest is in custody. HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Macomb County Animal Control is investigating a suspected crocodile or alligator reported swimming through the Clinton River in Harrison Township. “It was just swimming over there, came up out of the water. It had seen me and then went back down in the water,” said Anthony, who was near the river. Local 4 News' Tim Pamplin explored Clinton River for sightings of the suspected reptile. CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Crews broke ground Thursday on a memorial to honor Gold Star Families who have lost loved ones in the military. The 7-foot-tall black granite monument will stand at the Clinton Township Hall on Romeo Plank Road. You can watch Tim Pamplin’s full story in the video player above. DETROIT Intense rains led to fallen trees, power outages and flooding overnight -- and the rain threat hasnt finished yet. Some drivers tried going through rising waters and their vehicle got stuck. DETROIT A coronavirus (COVID-19) survivor who spent 73 days on a ventilator at a Detroit hospital finally got to head home Friday. Anne Duke and her family said they never gave up hope as she fought the virus. On Friday morning, she was released from the Rehabilitation Institute Of Michigan in Detroit. AUBURN HILLS, Mich. The Palace of Auburn Hills was a big part of Metro Detroit for nearly 30 years. SANFORD, Mich. – The catastrophic flooding caused by two dam failures in mid-Michigan has affected multiple communities, but nobody has been hit harder than the small town of Sanford. After the Edenville Dam collapsed, all eyes turned to the Sanford Dam, which had water and debris pressing up against it. She said the community of 800 people is going to need help. “There’s a lot of debris floating in the lake.”She said the first job is to remove the debris forced up against the Sanford Dam. Red Cross officials are also at the scene to help residents.

Aerial video from Sky 4 shows the state of Midland County around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Edenville Dam has broken and the Sanford Dam has been breached, officials said. No idea where rest of the house is’“This is unlike anything we’ve seen in Midland County,” she said. Families living along the Tittabawassee River and connected lakes in Midland County were ordered Tuesday evening to leave home.
