In an email to parents on Thursday, Superintendent Tim Wilson said the whooping cough (pertussis) case is contained to the high school and that there are no other such cases at other Clawson Public Schools buildings. According to the Oakland County Health Division, parents should keep children home from school and activities, such as sports or play groups, if they have a cough. The district has seen enrollment drop over the years, and with the drop in the number of students comes a decrease in funding. "They laid out three plans -- rightsizing, maybe closing some buildings and moving some things around," said Julia Beattie, the parent of a Clawson student. The Clawson District turned to parents for feedback about the plans it is considering. The meeting with parents, as well as possible options, will be discussed at a board workshop Nov. 4.

The district is considering several options: changing building configurations, closing a school, or merging with another district.
