“If you typically travel I-75 in this area southbound, you’re fine, but northbound? I wouldn’t even get on the freeway,” said MDOT's Rob Morosi.

MDOT said they are working to fix the issue and the lanes, but this will be an extensive project.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is holding a press briefing concerning emergency road repairs on I-75 at I-696 in Madison Heights.

Contracting crews will be replacing the northbound I-75 pavement near 11 Mile Road in Madison Heights to repair voids that were discovered on Friday, July 30.

The northbound lanes of I-75 in southern Oakland County will be closed this weekend for emergency repairs.

Both directions of I-75 between I-94 and M-8 (Davison Freeway) will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday.

Police have shut down the westbound I-96 express lanes to search for evidence related to a Tuesday night shooting.

According to authorities, the road reopened at about 8:30 p.m. after the collision had been cleared.

DETROIT – Eastbound I-94 at Woodward Avenue in Detroit was closed Monday afternoon as the result of a bullet casings search from a shooting, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. MDOT announced the closure and search for the bullet casings around 2 p.m. Monday. Shortly after 4 p.m. Monday the area was back open. A tow truck driver reported he was shot at by the suspect. State police say this was a road rage shooting and the suspect pulled off to the side of the freeway and started firing shots at the tow truck driver.

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – The eastbound I-696 ramp to Couzens Avenue in Madison Heights will close at 9 a.m. Monday for the final stages of the cleanup of the toxic green ooze. In December, 2019, hexavalent chromium was found leaking onto I-696. Since then, workers with the EPA and ELGE have been cleaning the site. Authorities said the ramp closure will allow for the removal of concrete to fully clean and remove the known-carcinogen. Madison Heights officials said EGLE and EPA conducted an extensive investigation, installed a treatment system and collected more than 350,000 gallons of contaminated groundwater to be treated.

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A 2-year project on Gratiot Avenue in Macomb County will begin Monday. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, more than three miles of Gratiot Avenue in Roseville will be rebuilt. Construction will focus on the stretch between 11 Mile and Common roads in 2021 and is expected to work between Common and 14 Mile roads in 2022. On the northbound side, the left lane will be closed from Frazho to Common roads and on the southbound side, the left lane will be closed from Common to 11 Mile roads. Police are investigating a crash that killed two people and injured another in Macomb County. According to authorities, the collision happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday when the driver of a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V lost control on the westbound lanes of 23 Mile Road and drove into the eastbound lanes, striking a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. (WDIV)Police said the driver of the Cadillac, 21-year-old David Vasilevski, and its only passenger, 22-year-old Ashley Machuta, were declared dead at the scene. The only occupant of the Dodge was a 19-year-old man from Macomb Township, who was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

DETROIT – A serious collision shut down the southbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway in Detroit Sunday night. Video from the scene shows at least two vehicles were involved near Chicago Boulevard. It’s unknown when the southbound lanes will reopen. Police have not released further details at the time.

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – I-75 in Oakland County has been full of orange barrels since March but now with vehicles traveling on the correct aide of the freeway, crews are gearing to wrap up for the winter. The project is right on schedule and all lanes are expected to be open by December. While it’s called a modernization project, it’s more than making the freeway look modern. After the seasonal shutdown, construction is scheduled to start back up in March, which is when they will work on the south side of I-75 from I-696 to Eight Mile Road. DETROIT – Southbound I-375 will be closed at Larned Street in Detroit for about two weeks for emergency repairs, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Crews are closing the highway for concrete repair and curing in cold temperatures, officials said. All southbound traffic will exit at Larned Street, just north of Jefferson Avenue. The diversion will last through early November. One northbound lane of I-375 will be closed through Tuesday (Oct. 20).

TAYLOR, Mich. – Northbound I-75 at Eureka in Taylor has reopened after a crash left the area closed Friday afternoon, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. Investigators say the initial crash involved a car and semi truck. A second car that could not stop in time went under the semi truck. Shortly after, a third driver could not stop in time and hit the vehicles. No injuries were reported.

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. A fuel tanker rolled over and exploded as it was exiting the I-75 freeway at Opdyke Road in Bloomfield Township at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The driver, a 50-year-old Detroit man, extricated himself from the truck and was treated at the scene by Bloomfield Township paramedics and firefighters. Firefighters had the fire under control and extinguished by about 11:30 p.m. Several other area public safety agencies assisted Bloomfield Township police and fire in the response including Waterford, Southfield, Birmingham, West Bloomfield, Auburn Hills, Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Ferndale, Rochester Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Troy, Oakland County and Star EMS. It just fell into place.I am pleased that Bloomfield Township has such fine fire and police departments. They do a superior job, as was shown by their fast and efficient action in dealing with this situation, said Bloomfield Township Leo Savoie supervisor.

DETROIT If youre headed north this weekend or down to Detroit, there is a freeway closure you need to be warned about. As we navigate through this strange time, we also have to continue to navigate through the 75 construction. The bad news is the freeway will be closed this weekend, the good news is despite the pandemic, the project is still on track. The closure affects 75 in both directions between 8 mile and Square Lake. While the pandemic has caused a decrease in traffic volumes on I-75, that hasnt necessarily sped up the projectAll the lesser traffic volumes especially early in the spring allowed for a safer work zone, said Morosi.

DETROIT – A rollover crash Tuesday morning blocked lanes for hours on westbound I-94 near Gratiot Avenue in Detroit. Michigan State Police said a garbage truck rolled over on the interstate. DEARBORN, Mich. – A 12-year-old boy suffered critical injuries during a crash Friday morning on eastbound I-94 in Dearborn. Two lanes on eastbound I-94 have been blocked for hours near Schaefer Highway. Police said the Chrysler crashed into the truck when the truck was getting up to speed when entering eastbound I-94 from Schaefer Highway. The female driver of the Chrysler suffered serious injuries to her legs, police said. The truck driver was not hurt.

A man was killed March 3, 2020 when he was struck by a vehicle along I-275 near M-5 in Oakland County. FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Michigan State Police closed southbound I-275 at the M-5/I-96/I-696 interchange for a deadly crash investigation on Tuesday morning. State police said a man believed to be in his 50s was struck by another car, a Chrysler 300. State police originally said the man was outside of his vehicle because he was changing a tire. The driver of the Chrysler 300, a man believed to be in his 30s, was taken to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

DETROIT – If you are planning to head downtown this weekend there are major construction projects that could cause delays. Eastbound I-94 between I-75 and Gratiot Avenue will be closed while crews work to tear down the East Grand Boulevard bridge. Due to the size and complexity of removing the overpass, eastbound and westbound I-94 are scheduled to be closed the following weekend, Feb. 21-24, to complete the demolition process. GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. – Northbound lanes of I-75 are closed in Genesee County after a void was created underneath the roadway by rushing water. MDOT says emergency repairs are underway at northbound I-75 and I-475. The freeway is closed. “Crews are currently reviewing the extent of the void under the NB I-75 roadway caused by rushing water. A fix will be established this morning and repairs will begin ASAP.”

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Ortonville Road is temporarily closed on both directions just north of the I-75 overpass due to a crash. Some traffic lights are without power. Traffic delays are expected. No serious injuries were reported.

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 61-year-old Canton Township man was killed in a three-car crash on I-275 on Thursday morning. Michigan State Police responded to the crash, calling it a three-car rear end crash, around 9 a.m. Thursday." A vehicle rear ended another vehicle in the middle lane of I-275 N/B near Cherry Hill. The rear ended vehicle was pushed into another vehicle," MSP said. The driver of the middle vehicle, a 61-year-old male from Canton Township, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Heads up Ann Arbor. MDOT will close eastbound M-14 from I-94 to Main Street over the Huron River for six hours on Sunday morning to repair bridge railing. While the lanes are closed, the suggested alternate route will be eastbound I-94 to northbound US-23.

Southbound I-275 has reopened to traffic at 8 Mile Road after it was closed Friday morning due to a crash. Traffic is now getting through in the southbound lanes again.
