DETROIT – Three people, including a Detroit police officer, were injured in a vehicle crash Monday after the officer drives through a stop sign. The crash happened in the area of Burt Road and Trojan Avenue. Police said they were responding to reports of another collision nearby when the officer when the police cruiser ran a stop sign. An SUV -- with a mother and her two daughters inside -- crashed into the cruiser. The two daughters, who are in their teens, and the officer were taken to a hospital and are in stable condition.

Two people were killed after a driver travels the wrong way on I-75, hitting another vehicle head on. According to Michigan State Police, the crash happened at about 4:50 p.m. Friday. Troopers were dispatched to I-75 near Schaefer after it was reported that a vehicle traveled south in the northbound lanes and crashed into another car. Both drivers were killed instantly. MSP said it is unknown which ramp the driver came from or why he was even driving the wrong way.

Road work on I-75 is resuming in Oakland County starting Friday and will close all freeway lanes between I-696 and Eight Mile Road over the weekend. When I-75 lanes reopen on March 1, only two lanes will be open in each direction from just south of Eight Mile Road to just north of 13 Mile Road, officials said. AdDuring the weekend road closure, I-75 traffic will be rerouted to the following:Northbound I-75 traffic will be detoured west on Eight Mile Road to northbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound I-696 back to northbound I-75, andSouthbound I-75 traffic will be detoured to westbound I-696 to southbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound Eight Mile Road back to southbound I-75. After the weekend closures, some lane and ramp closures will continue through the 2021 construction season in connection with the I-75 road work. WESTLAND, Mich. – One man who tried helping a woman in a fiery crash Tuesday night in Westland speaks out about the incident. Police said the 49-year-old woman from Romulus was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead after three vehicles collided near the intersection of Van Born and Henry Ruff roads. Alex Forsythe said he was sitting at a red light when he witnessed the crash. Abulawi said he and several drivers ran to pull the woman out and laid her down on the ground away from the fire. Police said the driver of the sports car -- a white Chevy Camero -- sustained minor injures and is facing possible charges.

DETROIT – Hours after a livestock hauler tipped over Monday on the westbound I-94 ramp to southbound I-75 in Detroit, dozens of cows inside were still being removed. However, officials said some of the animals will have to be euthanized due to their injuries. The incident happened at about 3 p.m. Monday westbound I-94 ramp to southbound I-75. An empty trailer arrived on the scene to take the cows. The condition of the driver is unknown, although no serious injuries have been reported.

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. – A black SUV crashed into a wine shop Tuesday night in Grosse Pointe Woods. Officials said that just before 8 p.m., the SUV veered off Mack Avenue, hitting small trees and parking meters before crashing into the front entrance of Merchant’s Fine Wine & Spirits. Irene, who lives nearby, said she stops into the store often and could not believe the damage done to the building. “I heard a bomb (sound) but I didn’t know if it’s in here or next door,” she said. “Everybody loves the store.”Grosse Pointe Woods police are still investigating.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 45-year-old Macomb Township man and his 12-year-old daughter were killed in a crash in the area of 21 Mile Road and Van Dyke in Shelby Township. Shelby Township police and fire departments were dispatched at about 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday to a crash involving two vehicles. Police said one of the vehicles, a Dodge Ram, was engulfed in flames. A preliminary investigation revealed that the Dodge Ram was traveling northbound on Van Dyke, turning left onto 21 Mile Road when a commercial truck was southbound on Van Dyke, traveling through 21 Mile Road. Anyone who was in the area and witnessed the crash is asked to contact Traffic Services Bureau Sgt.

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A man suspected of stabbing another man was arrested after leading police on a chase on Interstate 94. The incident on Tuesday began in Clinton Township on North Avenue. Police said the man is believed to have stabbed a man multiple times. He was later spotted on 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township on and tried to outrun police. A video of the chase obtained by Local 4 showed the man swerving on the shoulder of I-94.

WARREN, Mich. – A police chase ended in Warren after a man crashed a vehicle, that was reported stolen, into a utility pole. Police said the man broke into a woman’s home in Detroit, demanding her guns and car keys, and takes off with the car. The vehicle had OnStar, which tracked the vehicle in Warren. The man took off in high speed after Michigan State Police attempted to perform a traffic stop. According to MSP, the man was treated for minor injuries and taken into custody by Detroit police.

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A Clarkston woman was driving her normal route when a chunk of concrete from an overpass on Interstate 75 smashed into her windshield. Tracie Moonen was at Exit 93 on Dixie Highway at I-75 when the concrete hit her vehicle. Initially, she wondered if someone had thrown something, but the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office went out there and assessed what happened. MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Since the coronavirus pandemic began, one Metro Detroit neighborhood saw a dramatic rise in speeding vehicles. Drivers have used the Macomb Township neighborhood as a way to cut through, putting children and families at risk. “But this feels like a main road.”Local 4 Defenders set up a radar gun and caught drivers going way over the speed limit in the neighborhood filled with children. Residents said the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office was asked to patrol the area, but all they did was put up a device to track a vehicle’s speed. Since the Defenders began looking into the problem, the Sheriff’s Office reinstated the radar trailer in the subdivision to gather more data from speeders.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. – A 36-year-old North Carolina man has been charged in a vehicle crash that killed his 4-year-old daughter in Livingston County. Officials said Jonathan Osborne, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, is charged with one count of moving violation causing death, two counts of moving violation causing serious injury and one count of open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Two people were injured after a vehicle crashed into a laundromat Tuesday in Independence Township. The 74-year-old woman driving the vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment. “We just heard a big explosion, and when I walked out, I saw the car inside the laundromat,” said Virginia Dorse. “I ran outside and was checking on the lady in the car and then other people were checking on the other car.”No one inside the laundromat was hurt. DETROIT – Police said a driver was injured after a vehicle that was reported stolen collided with him at the intersection of St. Marys Street and Pembroke Avenue. Detroit police said that at about 3:35 p.m. on Monday, the 30-year-old driver, who was in a white 2015 Dodge Journey, was transported to a hospital and is listed in critical condition. Police said that after the crash, the occupants in the stolen black 2018 Dodge Charger fled the area prior to officers arriving at the scene. CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police said a truck crash in Canton Township Friday has caused a power outage along Haggerty Road between Palmer Road and Michigan Avenue. According to the Canton Public Safety, the fire department and DTE are on the scene. Traffic lights in the area may be impacted and drivers are advised to treat the intersections as a four-way stop. “Use caution in the area and remain at least 20 feet from any downed wires. According to the DTE outage map, more than 500 customers in the area are without power as of 10 p.m. Friday.

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Both directions of Schoenherr Road were closed Wednesday night between 21 Mile and 22 Mile roads in Shelby Township for emergency repairs after a vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant. There were no serious injuries reported. The crash caused a sinkhole, shutting down the road for emergency repairs. The road remained closed Thursday morning. That’s not tragic, that’s stupidity,” said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw. State police said the driver of a Chevy Camaro was speeding when he rear-ended a Mercury SUV heading in the same direction. “This is one crime we can make go away today if people did not get behind the wheel impaired,” Shaw said. “There’s two families, three families out there that possibly will never have the same experience in life again because their loved one is gone,” Shaw said.

FARMINGTON, Mich. – Farmington police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at the CVS store near the intersection of Farmington Road and Grand River. “It was around 4:30 p.m. today (Friday) when we got a number of calls in regard to an accident,” said Farmington Public Safety Director Frank Demers. “Backing out of the parking spot, her foot went from the brake to the accelerator. We think the vehicle probably went back about 20 feet before making contact with the victim who was walking into the store,” said Demers. “People did what they could to help.”Police said they don’t believe drugs or alcohol played a factor.

DETROIT – A portion of I-94 will be closed in Detroit this weekend due to bridge work. Elliott Street overpass will close I-94 from Gratiot Avenue to I-75 in Detroit beginning Friday, Dec. 11. Entrance ramps to westbound I-94 between Conner Road and Chene Street will close at 7 p.m. on Dec. 11. Amid the closures, westbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to southbound Gratiot Avenue to westbound Gratiot Connector, then northbound I-75 back to westbound I-94. Eastbound I-94 traffic will be detoured to southbound I-75 to the eastbound Gratiot Connector, then eastbound Gratiot Avenue back to eastbound I-94.

GROSSE ILE, Mich. – Grosse Ile police pulled a driver and vehicle from the Detroit River following a crash. The incident happened Friday night on East River Road near the Grosse Ile Yacht Club. He pointed officers to the river where they found the driver and vehicle. Police said the driver was going too fast to make a turn. That’s a steep curve so I know it can mislead people sometimes, but never anything like this where people have driven into the water.

WEST BLOOMFILED TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A late-night drive could have turned deadly for a 93-year-old man behind the wheel of a Cadillac. “I looked out and there was this poor man screaming for help, that he was dying out there,” said witness Robin Reynolds. So really it’s a miracle that he’s OK,” said West Bloomfield Township Deputy Police Chief Curt Lawson. The officer took all of his gear, waded in the freezing water and carried the man to land. I think he was a little disoriented and that’s how he found himself within that pond,” Lawson said.

DETROIT – A serious collision shut down the southbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway in Detroit Sunday night. Video from the scene shows at least two vehicles were involved near Chicago Boulevard. It’s unknown when the southbound lanes will reopen. Police have not released further details at the time.

DETROIT – Four children, between ages 4 and 14, were injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday night on westbound Interstate 94 at Cadieux Road. Michigan State Police was dispatched at about 8:20 p.m., according to a series of tweets from the department. A preliminary investigation indicated that two vehicles were attempting to exit at Cadieux Road at the same time. MSP said one of the vehicles blocked the left lane of westbound I-94. According to MSP, a 6-year-old was seriously injuries, a 4-year-old is in temporary serious condition, and a 9-year-old and 14-year-old are both in stable condition.

PONTIAC, Mich. – Police are investigating a vehicle submerged Tuesday night in Terry Lake in Pontiac. Family members at the scene said the driver may have had a medical condition that caused the vehicle to crash into the lake. “Upon arrival, the vehicle was already fully submerged. YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Charges have been filed against a 29-year-old driver in a crash that killed two construction works in Ypsilanti Township. Ryann Musselman, of Belleville, is charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated causing death. A vehicle driven by Musselman hit both of the workers in the area. The crash happened at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 94 eastbound near Harris Road. DETROIT – A Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) bus driver is in the hospital after a violent crash on Detroit’s east side that involved multiple vehicles. It happened at the intersection of Dequindre Street and East Outer Drive. Police said a 23-year-old driver of a Purple Magnum caused the multi-car crash involving a DDOT bus at the intersection. The bus hit some poles and the bus driver was ejected from the vehicle. The bus driver is recovering at the hospital.

DETROIT – Two Detroit officers were injured in a collision Friday night at the intersection of Seven Mile Road and Hoover Street. Three police vehicles were heading south on Hoover on an emergency run. As they got to the intersection, an SUV was trying to make the light on 7 Mile Road when the vehicles collided. The crash happened on the 12 Mile Road exit ramp from Interstate 75 northbound. Police said the driver who collided with the officer may have been drunk. The officer is OK, and the driver was taken to a hospital.

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – A vehicle involved in a fatal pedestrian incident in Birmingham last month was owned by Bloomfield Township and driven by a township employee, according to Bloomfield Township attorney Derk Beckerleg. Beckerleg addressed the investigation, confirming an employee was involved in the incident while in a township vehicle. Police aren’t releasing her name while the incident remains under investigation. “The township at this time will not be commenting any further on the details of this matter,” Beckerleg said. Birmingham police said they’re still waiting on toxicology reports for both the pedestrian hit and the driver.

DETROIT – Two Detroit patrol officers and another driver were injured in a collision Friday night at the intersection of Garland Street and East Warren. A preliminary investigation revealed that at about 8 p.m., the officers from Detroit Police Department’s Seventh Precinct were traveling south on Garland Street when they collided with a 29-year-old driver traveling east in a Pontac G6 on East Warren. Police said the impact of the collision caused the police vehicle to crash into a nearby church. The driver in the Pontiac G6 was taken to a hospital and was listed in temporary serious condition. The officers were listed in stable condition, and one officer has already been discharged.

DETROIT – A crash involving three vehicles happened in the area of Outer Drive and Mound roads Tuesday after a driver said he was trying to escape gunfire. The driver told police he was shot at as he was traveling on Outer Drive. He sped up and crashed into the other vehicles, also causing a fire hydrant to be knocked off. HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A routine traffic stop turned into a chaotic pursuit on I-94 Thursday morning. According to authorities, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies made a traffic stop just before 12:30 a.m. on a red Chevrolet pickup truck near Crocker Boulevard and Reimold Road. Police said the truck pulled away as the deputy approached and fled on I-94 eastbound. Police said the suspect began to deliberately ram the deputy vehicles, causing on vehicle to drive off the highway. Storing, a 31-year-old woman from Clinton Township, was arrested for flee and elude, assault with a deadly weapon and possession of heroin.

DETROIT – A 26-year-old man died after a rollover crash on Detroit’s east side Thursday afternoon. The crash happened at about 4 p.m. on Hoyt Street between Schoenherr Street and Gratiot Avenue. Police say the man was in a Volkswagen and drove through a yield sign, hitting another car. The driver in the other vehicle was a 20-year-old woman. She is expected to be OK.

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run Thursday night in the area of Plymouth Road and Rutherford Street. Police said the victim was struck by an unknown driver and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown what type of vehicle was involved. DETROIT – A Detroit father and a young man have been charged in a high-speed crash that took the life a 2-year-old child and critically injured two other kids. Michael Lipscomb Jr., 29, has been charged with second-degree murder, reckless driving causing death, and three counts of child abuse because prosecutors said his three children were in the backseat of his car. Jeffery Roberts, 20, has been charged with second-degree murder, reckless driving causing death and three counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment. Detroit police said Lipscomb and Roberts were drag racing when they crashed. Prosecutors said Lipscomb had his kids in the car when he was speeding on West Eight Mile Road and Cherrylawn Street in Detroit.

DETROIT – Traffic on Interstate 96 was shut down for hours Tuesday afternoon as Michigan State Police tried to piece together a shooting on the freeway near Greenfield Road. A jeep that was struck in the shooting received damage to its back window, driver’s side window and door and one of the tires. Sources said the man driving the jeep told police he was shot at while driving on the Southfield Freeway north of Joy Road, which lead police to shut down the lanes Tuesday night and start walking the freeway looking for shell casings. Police sources said after the man was shot at, he pulled over near I-96 and Greenfield and called a family member to come and get him. It is unknown what led to the shooting.

ROMULUS, Mich. – Nine people, seven of them being children ages of 7-12, were injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday at Eureka Road and Brandt Street, Romulus police said. Police responded at about 5:50 p.m. to the crash involving a gold Chevy Equinox and a white Chevy Impala. The nine people are being treated at a hospital. The crash is under investigation. WARREN, Mich. – Two people were arrested in Warren after a traffic stop turned into a police chase. Warren police were attempting to stop the vehicle on Van Dyke Avenue near Civic Center Drive. The driver then does a donut in the middle of the road and nearly slams into the squad car. The vehicle weaved in and out of traffic, reaching 100 miles per hour, traveling south on Van Dyke. Warren police have two people in custody, including one individual who police said is a felon in possession of a firearm.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Michigan State Police are searching for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run on Interstate 94 that killed a 26-year-old construction worker. The incident happened just before 3 p.m. in St. Clair Shores. Macomb County Department of Roads crew was putting down a patch to fix a broken manhole cover. The eastbound lanes were shut down for three-plus hours as MSP investigated the scene at Nine Mile Road. Person working on the side of the road has a vest, maybe a barrel,” said Diane Cross with the Michigan Department of Transportation.

DETROIT – A project to repair retaining walls on M-10 (Lodge Freeway) in Detroit begin today -- and it’ll mean closures on service drives and eventually the freeway itself. The northbound M-10 service drive from Sorrento Avenue to Outer Drive will be closed first, followed by the southbound M-10 service drive closure from Hartwell Avenue to Thatcher Avenue for pavement removal. The northbound M-10 service drive will be detoured to northbound Meyers Road, then westbound 7 Mile Road back to the northbound M-10 service drive. The southbound M-10 service drive will be detoured to southbound Schaefer Highway, then eastbound McNichols Road back to the southbound M-10 service drive. Northbound M-10 will be detoured via eastbound M-8 (Davison Freeway) to northbound I-75, then westbound M-102 (8 Mile Road).

A new report finds Michigan's rural roads and bridges are in need of serious repairs. The report, Rural Connections: Challenges and Opportunities in America’s Heartland, evaluates the safety and condition of the nation’s rural roads and bridges and finds that the nation’s rural transportation system is in need of immediate improvements to address deficient roads and bridges, high crash rates, and inadequate connectivity and capacity. The report finds that 16 percent of Michigan’s rural roads are rated in poor condition – the 19th highest rate in the nation - and 18 percent are rated in mediocre condition. The rate of traffic fatalities on Michigan’s non-Interstate, rural roads is nearly double the fatality rate on all other roads in the state – 1.55 fatalities per 100 million vehicle miles of travel vs. 0.83. Making critical safety improvements to rural roads will save thousands of lives each year and help move our economy forward.”
