A former treasurer for Hazel Park has been charged with using two resident property tax checks to pay for her own personal expenses, officials said.

A treasurer in a small Northern Michigan city is accused of embezzling $23,000 by making unauthorized payments to herself, officials said.

The treasurer didn’t come to the door to respond to Local 4′s questions, but people in Grosse Pointe Woods want to know what’s going on. All accounts, including PayPal, have been frozen, and this matter has been referred to the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department.”“That is not good,” resident Bennie Evola said.
