Known as the ENSEMBLE study, the trial will test an investigational vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The University of Michigan is one of several test sites around the globe supporting the trial, which aims to enroll up to 60,000 volunteers. “Michigan Medicine is committed to supporting the continued study of the investigational Janssen vaccine and other vaccine candidates. The Janssen study is the second COVID-19 trial to be recruiting at U-M, along with the AstraZeneca trial.

Mott Childrens Hospital was ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the top-ranked childrens hospital in Michigan. For its rankings, U.S. News & World Report evaluated 4,554 community hospitals but only 134 -- just under 3 percent -- were ranked as having at least one specialty. Our national ranking is truly an honor, Jeffrey Desmond, M.D., chief medical officer of Michigan Medicine, said in a statement.

Dr. Oluwaferanmi Okanlami has been named as the interim director of Services for Students with Disabilities at the Univeristy of Michigan. An assistant professor at the U-M Medical School, Okanlami will also serve as the director of the adaptive sports in the Michigan Center for Human Athletic Medicine and Performance at Michigan Medicine, which will move to U-Ms Division of Student Life. The collaborative partnership between Michigan Medicine and Student Life is intended to expand programs and raise awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion challenges. His expertise and experiences make him a great choice to lead Services for Students with Disabilities. He is taking over for the previous Services for Students with Disabilities interim director Alfred Kellam, who will retire from the U-M in September.

U.S. News & World Report just released its "Best Hospitals" rankings for 2019-20, and Michigan Medicine ranked as the top hospital in the state and No. 11 in the U.S. USNWR gave Michigan Medicine its Honor Roll distinction, an award given to just 20 hospitals in the country that give the highest quality of care spanning various procedures, specialties and conditions. U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals and just 3 percent -- or 165 hospitals -- earned even one spot on the rankings. "An Honor Roll national ranking is clearly an honor," Jeffrey Desmond, M.D., chief medical officer of Michigan Medicine, said in a statement.
