Gretchen Whitmer and Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, the chief medical executive for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, announced the move to phase 1B on Wednesday. The state acknowledged, however, that not everyone from the first phase had received the vaccine. While Whitmer said not everyone from Phase 1A had to be vaccinated before people from 1B started receiving their first doses, many of the sites administering the vaccine announced they wouldn’t immediately be moving on to phase 1B on Monday. ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A driver was killed and an injured passenger was extracted after 45 minutes when a car “vaulted” from a ditch into a Walgreens in Ann Arbor, officials said. A vehicle was traveling south on Huron Parkway when it left the road near Asher Road, Ann Arbor police said. Officials said the driver, identified as Otis Jones, 82, of Ann Arbor, was killed in the crash. Firefighters spent 45 minutes extricating the front seat passenger, a 77-year-old Ann Arbor woman who was “significantly pinned” in the vehicle.

Workers at U of M Hospital were some of the very first to get the initial vaccine shot late Monday. The first doses from Pfizer came rolling into Michigan Medicine on Monday morning. U of M Health System President Dr. David Spahlinger said he got word over the weekend that the vaccines were ready and being shipped. “It was a package of hope,” Spahlinger said.
