COVID-19 may be limiting the ability for live audiences, but the Detroit Symphony Orchestra isn’t letting that stop them from bringing live music back to the city. The DSO is beginning its 2020 season virtually this week, with a digital concert series that will broadcast live performances on Thursday and Friday nights. The broadcasts will be available to watch at the DSO website, along with information about tickets, events, and how to watch. He says that the switch to virtual performances gave them the opportunity to try out new pieces that wouldn’t normally be performed in live concert. Bignamini said “We are energized at the opportunity to perform as an ensemble again and bring world class music into homes across Detroit and beyond.”

It launched the free Ark Family Room Series in April and offers between 15 to 20 virtual programs a month. It wants to raise $25,000 to keep funding programs, like its Ark Family Room Series, that go beyond Ann Arbor. Some supporters are local and loyal fans of the music venue, but others are in Australia, Ireland and the state of Washington. Currently, it is working to develop ticketed events and is exploring ways to make virtual programs more enriching and engaging for patrons. ANN ARBOR, Mich. Doors to its downtown Ann Arbor venue may be temporarily closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) but The Ark is still offering a lineup of concerts online. The free concert series is called the Ark Family Room Series and features performances from a variety of artists. Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, organized a live concert on the band’s Instagram page Monday, which inspired John Legend to do the same thing Tuesday. The best part is that Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, filmed the live concert for fans to watch all across the globe. Rock legend Neil Young announced he would be doing a virtual concert after having to cancel many upcoming tour dates because of the coronavirus. Young is calling it the “Fireside Sessions,” and the concert will be streaming live from his website, Neil Young Archives. Will we see more famous musicians turn their living rooms into intimate concert venues for their fans to watch on the internet in the comfort of their quarantined homes?
