The DSO is beginning its 2020 season virtually this week, with a digital concert series that will broadcast live performances on Thursday and Friday nights. The broadcasts will be available to watch at the DSO website, along with information about tickets, events, and how to watch. He says that the switch to virtual performances gave them the opportunity to try out new pieces that wouldn’t normally be performed in live concert. Bignamini said “We are energized at the opportunity to perform as an ensemble again and bring world class music into homes across Detroit and beyond.”

It wants to raise $25,000 to keep funding programs, like its Ark Family Room Series, that go beyond Ann Arbor. Some supporters are local and loyal fans of the music venue, but others are in Australia, Ireland and the state of Washington. Currently, it is working to develop ticketed events and is exploring ways to make virtual programs more enriching and engaging for patrons. Rock legend Neil Young announced he would be doing a virtual concert after having to cancel many upcoming tour dates because of the coronavirus. Young is calling it the “Fireside Sessions,” and the concert will be streaming live from his website, Neil Young Archives.
