According to investigators, the couple lived in an apartment above Reed, who told police the incident started as an altercation. BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. A 45-year-old man was found dead in the the Saint Joseph River in Berrien County on Sunday, WOOD-TV reports. According to police the man jumped into the river to save a child from drowning on June 19 and was not seen since. The man was found Sunday a half mile from where he went missing in the river, the Berrien County Sheriffs Office said. His identity has not been released. Officials say an autopsy will take place at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine.

KENTWOOD, Mich. – Two men were killed in a Kentwood mobile home Friday night, according to a report from Grand Rapids based station WOOD-TV. Police were called to the Paris Estates Mobile Home Park after 11 p.m. Friday night. The victims, two men in their 30s, were found fatally shot by officers inside a home on Marlette Avenue. BRIDGETON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 10-year-old western Michigan boy has been struck and killed by a pickup truck. WOOD-TV reports Saturday that the child was hit about 7:30 p.m. Friday in Newaygo County’s Bridgeton Township, north of Grand Rapids. He later was pronounced dead at a hospital. Sheriff’s deputies say the 20-year-old pickup driver was grading a driveway when the boy was struck.

According to WOOD-TV, more than 12 hours passed before Kaliesia's mother knew she had been shot. She saw the wounds on her daughter's arm while she was getting her ready for school the next day. The girl spent most of the week in a hospital after she was shot.

WYOMING, Mich. - The parents of an 18-month-old boy who died of dehydration have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in western Michigan. WOOD-TV reports that the deal reached Monday will make Andrea Todd eligible for parole after 16 years. Yurik Birkenmeyer weighed just 22 pounds when he was found dead at home in Wyoming, a Grand Rapids suburb, in March 2018. The boy had been in foster care for 10 months after a child-welfare investigator was concerned about his care. Court records show the couple had another child who died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in 2015 after sleeping next to one of the parents.

CHARLOTTE, Mich. - Police say three people have died in a collision between a horse-drawn buggy and a motor vehicle in Michigan. Dispatchers for the Eaton County Sheriff's Office tell WOOD-TV the people in the buggy were heading home from an Amish school when the crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday about 15 miles (24 kilometers) southwest of Lansing. A fourth person also injured in the crash was taken by ambulance to a hospital. Further details about the collision were not immediately available. SARANAC, Mich. - Officials say a western Michigan boy who died after collapsing during football practice had a heart condition. The Saranac Community Schools 7th-grader collapsed Wednesday evening during a non-contact drill and died hours later at a hospital. An obituary posted online by Lake Funeral Homes says 12-year-old Skylar enjoyed football, fishing and camping, and was an avid fan of the University of Michigan. Saranac Community Schools Superintendent Jason Smith released the following statement:With a heavy heart Saranac Community Schools is mourning the loss of one of our very own 7th graders. The student passed away late last night at the hospital, after a medical emergency during the Saranac Community Youth Football practice.

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. - Boaters are credited with rescuing a teenage girl who was swept off a pier and into Lake Michigan by high waves. WOOD-TV broadcast video of the girl tumbling into the water Saturday at Grand Haven in western Michigan. We were meant to be there.The rescue took place amid a dangerous summer along Lake Michigan. The Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project says at least 27 people have drowned in the lake this year, up 80% from 15 at the same point last year. The water safety nonprofit counts 51 Great Lakes fatalities from drownings, up two from the same point in 2018.
