– Dwayne Haskins picked up his first NFL victory but inexplicably didn’t take the final snap in victory formation. Haskins was celebrating the Washington Redskins’ 19-16 comeback win over the Detroit Lions by taking a selfie with a fan who was in the first row. Haskins scrambled for 11 yards and completed passes of 5 yards to Kelvin Harmon and 17 to Terry McLaurin to set up Hopkins’ go-ahead field goal. The interception by Dunbar in the final minute hurt the most because it gave Haskins and the Redskins the ball back to win it in regulation. Then he took advantage of the Lions’ blown coverage to go 91 yards for a touchdown.

The NFL Players Association came to the defense of Washington Redskins tackle Trent Williams by accusing the NFL Network of using misinformation in an attempt to tarnish the player's reputation. The NFLPA posted a statement on its Twitter account backing Williams and saying it will consider taking action against the league to protect the player's rights. Without mentioning anyone specifically, the NFLPA said the "NFL's own network" was using unsourced information "designed to tarnish Trent's reputation." On Friday, former Washington general manager and current NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly said Williams was told three years ago that the growth on his head should be tested and added the player never scheduled the procedure. Williams said it got pretty serious and he was "told some scary things" by doctors that changed his outlook on life.

(CNN) - Jay Gruden is out as head coach of the Washington Redskins. Gruden was fired Monday, according to NFL.com, after the team's 0-5 start to the season. "Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility," according to a statement Monday from the Redskins. The Redskins were smacked by the New England Patriots -- the current Super Bowl champion -- 33-7 on Sunday. Gruden was in the middle of his sixth season coaching the team and had compiled a 35-49-1 record, according to Bleacher Report.

Its akin to a pinch hitter winning an MVP award in baseball, or a sixth man (first player off of the bench to replace a starter) in the NBA being named league MVP. During the season, Redskins kicker Mark Moseley went from nearly being traded to having a career year. But was it really worthy of being named MVP? However, MVP voters gave Moseley the nod in a close 35-33 vote over Fouts, thus establishing history as the only time a kicker who played solely on special teams was named league MVP. In 1954, kicker Lou Groza was named MVP, but he also doubled as an offensive lineman.
