Clearer skies would permit some cooler 20s. Good Friday morning! So let’s chalk up a win for the clouds this morning because they are not leaking any more of that wintry mix. Watch out for some slippery spots after last night’s light rain and snow and Metro Detroit surface temps close to freezing. That goes for that walk to work or simply to your car as the sidewalks and streets may have secret slick spots. Other than that, we’re doing just fine heading into the weekend.

Temperatures are still hanging in the low to mid 60s thanks to a warm front that moved south to north earlier this morning as the spark for some of these showers. We will have slightly warmer and more unstable air around our area today with a threat for severe storms later on. It will not be an all-day washout today but, keep the umbrella handy today and tomorrow as these on and off rain and thundershowers are going to be touch and go for the next 36 hours. Conditions will temporarily dry out during and after our morning commute today and temps will start to take off.

A cold front is pushing through as we speak which will keep those temps from moving very much through the day and that front will spark a few flakes and flurries, but the roads are in good shape and should stay that way even with isolated flurries and light snow chances. Lake effect snow showers in the Thumb will cause some tricky travel on the shorelines of Lake Huron this morning but most of Metro Detroit will only see remnants of that in the form of mainly flurries.

Then showers and possible thunderstorms increase by mid-to-late morning, and should end from west to east by mid-afternoon. A narrow line of showers and thunderstorms could develop late afternoon / evening ahead of the second cold front. The better chance is north of M-59, but just keep in mind that we are not completely out of the woods for another shower or storm until after 9:00 or 10:00 p.m.
