Starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, the children’s theater will host its free Halloween Variety Hour through Facebook Live. After the live performance, the show can be watched on the Wild Swan Facebook page. Although the doors to its theater closed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Wild Swan entertained audiences in July with a virtual series of 30-minute variety shows. The Wild Swan Variety Show is a 30-minute virtual show featuring songs and stories from childrens stories like Charlottes Web and Winnie-the Pooh. Sandy Ryder, co-artistic director for Wild Swan Theater, said that the show was born from the theater company wanting to stay connected to the community. The theater company decided to try online variety shows which incorporate Wild Swan artists and different stories, songs, characters, music and poetry. Wild Swan Theater, an Ann Arbor nonprofit that aims to make theater more accessible, will be hosting two virtual summer camp programs for kids in Camp DoYaWanna Online. Kids age 8-10 are invited to participate in the Playmakers camp while kids age 11-13 can join in the Storymakers program. Both camps will feature a daily Zoom meeting with Wild Swan teacher and Co-Artistic Director, Sandy Ryder. As the camp is 100% virtual, both programs at Camp DoYaWanna Online are open to kids anywhere in the world. The activities are designed for independent play or for children and adults to engage together at home, with the help of an occasional prop of common household objects. Throughout its 40-year history, Wild Swan offers lively, participatory theater workshops that provide fun ways for participants to develop imagination and creativity in a group setting. Most activities are designed to be enjoyed both indoors and outdoors -- away from screens. Every few weeks, Wild Swan will be releasing new theater games, video clips of past productions, playwriting activities and activities for kids with special needs.
