YSPILANTI, Mich. โ€“ Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) animal cruelty investigators are asking community members for leads about a dead dog found on the side of Ecorse Road near Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti on Monday. โ€œThese werenโ€™t stabs,โ€ said HSHV Animal Cruelty and Rescue Supervisor Melinda Szabelski. AdThe family found the mutilated dog on the side of the road two-and-a-half miles away from their home after searching and posting online. They called HSHV animal cruelty investigators after seeing that the dog may have been intentionally harmed, said HSHV. Humane Society investigators didnโ€™t find blood or any other typical signs that the dog may have been hit by a car, the organization said.

According to the Riverview Police Department, the man, identified as Jacob McMillan, turned himself in and was arraigned on the misdemeanor charge Wednesday. On Nov. 10, officers received calls about the video -- posted on social media -- capturing a man throwing the pit bull in the Riverview Crossings apartment building. Police identified McMillan through witness reports. A detective on the case spoke with apartment management, who stated that McMillan did not live in the apartment.

Elise Ramsey, an investigator with the Michigan Humane Society, said sheโ€™ll go anywhere to stop animal cruelty. A recent case in Garden City was incredibly disturbing, she said. Ramsey answered the ad and began an undercover text exchange with the poster, exposing sickening and exhausting evidence, she said. The big picture is going to be much better.โ€Charges in the case were approved last Friday against Jacob Peltz, 27, of Garden City.

MORE: 83 toy-sized dogs with medical issues seized from St. Clair Township homeIrene Burns was arraigned on an abandoning or cruelty to 25 or more animals charge Monday. If convicted, she could face up to seven years in prison and a $10,000 fine. On Nov. 5, the dogs, who had medical issues, were seized from a suspected dog breeder in St. Clair Township. Police said the dogs were found in cramped wire cages that were stacked on top of each other.
