DETROIT – On Monday, the North American International Auto Show announced it will not hold the annual event in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 2020, NAIAS also canceled the event as a result of the pandemic. The show was canceled last year after it was announced that Detroit’s TCF Center would become a temporary hospital for COVID patients. DETROIT – The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) announced that it will move its reimagined indoor and outdoor show, originally planned for summer 2021, to Sept. 28 through Oct. 9, 2021. “Spreading out major auto shows is a win for everyone, particularly our partners. The tough new fuel economy standards require manufacturers to achieve a fleet average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. Most car companies have already worked through the easy approaches, such as putting smaller engines into bigger cars. The switch from steel has taken up to 700 pounds out of the vehicle, making fuel-economy numbers sure to go up. Ford is also banking on its EcoBoost engine, which gets more power out of smaller motors.
