High pressure continues to bring dry and summer-like weather to Metro Detroit.

The dry weather stick around with sunshine and temperatures into the 70s by Saturday Afternoon

Good Thursday morning on a day that becomes the transition from Summer to Fall. It is cooling down right on schedule with Metro Detroit temperatures dipping down into the lower and middle 50s. It was a big cold front that brought the storms yesterday, but we are finally feeling the cooler air today. We have quite a bit of cloud cover coming and going without any rain or fog as you head out and about to get going into what some consider to be Michigan’s finest season. It’s sweatshirt or light jacket weather for that early morning walk with the dog and today may be the first day of pants instead of shorts at school. We will struggle to warm with a gusty and cooler breeze.

September is the beginning of Meteorological Fall because breaking seasons down into three specific months make it easier to keep weather and climate records. The Autumnal Equinox is still three weeks away which means we are not officially done with summer yet. It feels every bit like a late summer morning out there with Metro Detroit temps in the upper 50s to low 60s on this Thursday under mostly clear skies and dry conditions if you’re heading out for a light morning jog or heading into the old workplace.

Today’s scattered showers are just an appetizer for the main course of heavy rain to come to Detroit and southeast Michigan from tonight through Thursday.

It is the final Friday of Summer 2021. Before fall begins, Friday afternoon is warm and more humid. Temperatures remain above average overnight, this weekend and early next week. Fore fall-like weather arrives, appropriately after the autumnal equinox.

Here is the weather forecast for Metro Detroit.

There are many legends that go along with it, including that you can balance an egg on its end at the exact moment of the equinox. Steve Garagiola found a myth that because of a unique gravitational influence of the sun, it’s possible to balance an egg on its end at the exact moment of the equinox. That exact moment was Tuesday at 9:31 a.m. Eastern Time. Mike Narlock, of the Cranbrook Institute of Science, said there’s nothing unique about the equinox in regard to balancing an egg. As we await Fall’s arrival, we have mostly clear skies with cool and calm conditions again around Metro Detroit. The mornings have been crisp and today is no exception with mainly mid to upper 40s as you head out and about on a Tuesday. It means the sun will start getting lower and lower in the skies as we begin our traditionally cooler months, and it’s the official start of Fall! But don’t expect a fall feel going forward. There’s still plenty of above normal temperatures that lie ahead. High pressure is ‘stuck’ between us and Hurricane Teddy. Along with Teddy in the Atlantic, those are the only two organized systems we’re looking at right now. But there’s quite a bit of hurricane season left, which runs through November 30.

The winds will begin to pick up W 7-17 mph gusting 20-30 mph this afternoon.
