Poll: Pandemic hurting Americans' finances in disparate ways
As the coronavirus pandemic drags on, a new poll finds it is having different effects on Americans economic well-being. For some, the virus has meant lost income or struggles to pay bills on time particularly among Hispanic, Black and younger Americans. Meanwhile, the survey also finds about a third of Americans say their investments were negatively impacted during the pandemic. By contrast, Americans without a degree were more likely to have delayed paying bills 26%, compared with 10% of college graduates. Younger Americans were more likely to have lost a job, put themselves at risk of exposure or delayed paying bills, while more older Americans lost investments.
Friday Fill-Up nonprofit in Metro Detroit helps students with need for food
Last week in our Your Neighborhood segment, Local 4 showed you a local nonprofit that provides meals through the weekend for students in the Avondale School District. What we do is provide free-of-charge food kits to local elementary school children, said Friday Fill-Up co-founder Gabby Burton. Wednesday mornings, we have everything set up for our volunteers, Burton said. So theres a group of volunteers that help set up that help count everything to 110. For Burton, ending food insecurity within the area has become her mission, and shes encouraging others to help as she watches the need for food grow.

Genesee County men convicted for deer hunting violations after 3 year Michigan DNR investigation
BURTON, Mich. โ Three members of a family from Genesee County were convicted for deer hunting violations in Oscoda County. According to the DNR, Joseph Dykes, 33, pleaded guilty to unlawfully using (borrowing or loaning) a hunting license, baiting, and taking deer without a license. Joseph's father Richard Raymond Dykes, 59, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawfully using a hunting license. He paid $450 in fines and costs, was placed on probation for six months and had his hunting privileges revoked during his probation.
