The charismatic and highly talented Detroit Youth Choir gained notoriety in 2019 after a successful run on “America’s Got Talent,” and now, the group is getting its own docuseries on the streaming network Disney+, according to Deadline. The six-episode series, called “Choir,” has been filming since last fall, and will examine the ins and out of the Detroit Youth Choir, as well as featuring its artistic director, Anthony White. “We guarantee you’ll be singing along with this joyful group as they learn lessons about music and life in general.”AdThe Detroit Youth Choir was founded in 1996, and is comprised of Detroit students ages 8 to 18. Lake Superior State University is accepting candidates for its 46th annual tongue-in-cheek list of words that should be banished. “It’s our tradition to publish the world-famous banished words list on Dec. 31 so that people don’t begin the new year by putting their foot in their mouth,” LSSU President Rodney Hanley said. “No-brainer — which also made our list in the past.”The deadline to submit online entries is 8 a.m. EST on Nov. 30. More than a dozen words or phrases were added last year, including “artisanal,” “influencer,” “living my best life” and “chirp.”There are more than 1,000 banned words or phrases in the Lake Superior State archive. The long-gestating film adaptation of the Broadway hit “Wicked” has hit another snag. Director Stephen Daldry is exiting the project, a studio representative confirmed Tuesday. The “Billy Elliot” director has been associated with the adaptation for years, going back as far as 2012. Writer Winnie Holzman, who wrote the musical, wrote the script with “Wicked” composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. At one point, the film was supposed to hit theaters in Dec. 2019.

DETROIT – Secretary of State mailings are expected to register more than 100,000 citizens as voters, based on current responses to the letters and upcoming registration deadlines. “Michigan citizens want to vote. These mailers invited recipients to register to vote by going online or by returning the enclosed card to the Secretary of State. Approximately 130,000 of the citizens who received a letter conducted a transaction at a Secretary of State branch office after automatic voter registration was required by the state constitution but before it had been implemented. Together, these programs are on track to result in more than 100,000 newly registered Michigan citizens, based on voters who registered online, registered by returning the mailing, or are being registered automatically.

DETROIT – Just before midnight, a federal judge ruled the count for the U.S. census will not end next week. Census workers and households have until the end of October to get the form filled out. “That extends the door knocking,” said Victoria Kovari, from the city of Detroit census. “It extends the website response, the phone lines, etc.”In April, the Census Bureau announced operations would be extended until the end of October because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. “Congress could still act to extend the time the Census Bureau has to deliver the population count beyond Dec. 31.

Previously, the Census Bureau had only half that time for data processing, from the start of October until the end of December. The San Jose, California-based judge earlier this month issued a temporary restraining order prohibiting the Census Bureau from winding down field operations until she ruled. Attorneys for the Census Bureau and the Department of Commerce said Friday they would file an appeal and asked the judge to suspend the injunction while that happens. WASHINGTON – United States Secretary of the Treasury announced Friday that the income tax filing deadline will be moved from April 15 to July 15. “All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties,” Secretary Mnuchin announced.
