BERLIN – A German court ruled Thursday that online retail giant Amazon has to tell consumers the specific country of origin of fresh fruit and vegetables that it sells. The case was the result of a lawsuit brought by consumer protection group Foodwatch. In his ruling, Presiding Judge Andreas Mueller said that according to European Union regulations, consumers had to be given specific details on the country of origin of food, the dpa news agency reported. That means, for example, that it was not acceptable for Amazon to sell grapes listing 13 possible countries of origins or deliver mangoes grown in Israel when the website listed their country of origin as Senegal, dpa reported. AdAmazon told the court it had already adjusted its practices after the initial ruling last year.

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A man was shot in his leg when he was robbed while delivering groceries Tuesday night to a home on South Gainsborough Avenue in Royal Oak. Police said two men approached the delivery driver just after 9 p.m. in the 700 block of South Gainsborough Avenue. The victim’s vehicle was a gray 2007 Toyota Camry with Michigan license plate 5MP N71. Royal Oak police detectives are investigating the incident. NEW YORK – DoorDash is looking for a valuation of nearly $30 billion when it takes itself public, reflecting how integral food delivery has become in millions of people’s lives during the pandemic. The company is planning to raise up to approximately $2.8 billion from an initial public offering of 33 million shares. It had a net loss of $667 million in 2019 and $149 million in the first nine months of 2020. The company did turn a profit of $23 million in the second quarter this year, but followed that with a $43 million loss in the third quarter. DoorDash Inc. will list on the New York Stock Exchange under the DASH ticker symbol.

ANN ARBOR – Plum Market fans, rejoice. The grocery store featuring locally sourced products has announced same-day delivery in Ann Arbor and the Detroit metro area in partnership with delivery service Shipt. Now through Dec. 24, Shipt customers will receive 50% off passes, which can be purchased with each delivery and require no long term commitment. “Our new partnership with Shipt enables us to offer Plum Market guests a convenient and cost-effective home delivery option,” Matt Jonna, CEO and Co-Founder of Plum Market, said in a statement. The move will see hundreds of new shoppers added to the Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit area.

Since this summer, we’ve had an increase in patients reporting delays (especially in rural areas) with deliveries of their medications sent via USPS. Many of our specialty medications are refrigerated and sent via FedEx Overnight, but most of our retail prescriptions and non-refrigerated medications are sent via USPS Priority Mail. We typically expect, and relay to our patients, that their medications (sent via USPS) will take 2-3 days to arrive, from the date it ships from our facility. We’ve had an increase in the number of patients reporting delays, and in some cases it takes over a week to arrive. DUNDEE, Mich. Police are seeking the publics help to identify a person who stole cash from a hotel after posing as a Door Dash delivery driver on Sunday. The Dundee Police Department says just before midnight, the suspect faked a delivery at the Hampton Inn & Suites at 401 Powell Drive. The suspect reportedly returned to the lobby after the delivery to notify a clerk that a man was laying on the floor unconscious upstairs. Police say that after the clerk left to check on the situation, the suspect walked behind the desk counter and stole $275 from a cash drawer. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a gray or silver four-door sedan.

ROMULUS, Mich. With stay-at-home orders and social distancing rules in effect due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, many people have relied on Amazon to get them through the last several months. Local 4s Hank Winchester was given access to the massive Amazon distribution center in Romulus as workers process all the pandemic orders. Some employees at the facility were unhappy with how Amazon responded to the pandemic. ANN ARBOR Having shut its doors in June due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the historic Blue Front in downtown Ann Arbor will reopen in mid-August with new owners. He said buying the Blue Front seemed like a good way to diversify while also preserving an Ann Arbor landmark. When able to, Vogt said that Blue Front will return to offering tasting events as well as monthly beer and wine clubs. STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. Amazon is planning to open a new delivery center in Sterling Heights to help speed up deliveries in the area. Obviously Sterling Heights represents a significant customer base for Amazon, which certainly influenced their decision to select our city as the site for this delivery station, said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor. Our skilled labor in Southeast Michigan, particularly in Sterling Heights, is second to none. We are delighted Amazon has chosen Sterling Heights as home to one of the first delivery stations in the county.Delivery stations enable Amazon Logistics to supplement capacity and flexibility to Amazons delivery capabilities. Amazon says the delivery center will create hundreds of part-time and full-time jobs.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. On Monday, Ann Arbors latest cannabis provisioning center, Liberty Ann Arbor, will be holding its grand opening. The business will also be launching its Kick COVID to the Curb program, which is intended to help local restaurants around the provisioning center. Managed by Holistic Industries, the company intends to hold Liberty Cannabis Cares town halls and educational programs as well as offer a rewards program. To keep customers safe, Liberty Ann Arbor will limit in-store customers to four or five at a time and require masks and social distancing. Liberty Ann Arbor will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Redford Lots of restaurants and bakeries are re-imagining how they do business as we emerge from staying at home. One local favorite, Ackroyds Scottish Bakery in Redford, which has been in business for 70 years, is completely changing things up and closing all their retail store. They changed up their business to make things safer for their customers and employees during the COVID-19 epidemic.
