A demolition crew tearing down an old Detroit building accidentally stumbled upon a century-old piece of history.

On Thursday, a group of history buffs eagerly gathered inside an exhibit hall at the Detroit Historical Museum. The group was anxiously waiting for a near-century-old time capsule to be delivered.

This is the 2nd installment of the exhibit titled “The Hustle,” where 34 Black owned Detroit small businesses are recognized not only for their hustle and grind, but for giving back to the community.

During a time of segregation in the US, there was one destination in Detroit where people from around the world, no matter their color or culture flocked to for a great time. That was “Paradise Valley,” where thousands of African Americans thrived and owned over 300 businesses. It was located in an area known as Black Bottom.
