RVER ROUGE, Mich. – At least two people have died following a shooting in Wayne County on Thursday morning. According to police, a shooting occurred in Ecorse Thursday morning. Two individuals involved in the shooting, both in their 20s, reportedly drove to River Rouge in search of help. The two individuals drove to the River Rouge Police Department, where they died inside of the vehicle, officials say. Additional details regarding the shooting or the victims’ identities have not yet been released.

A Metro Detroit veterinarian shed light Sunday on how the dog is doing and the unlikely thing that may have saved his life. Fonzi was stranded for four days on ice in Detroit River until a Good Samaritan -- who wished to remain anonymous -- reached him with an airboat and brought him to shore. He had blocks of ice frozen in his fur, was suffering frostbite, malnutrition and severe pancreatitis.

ECORSE, Mich. – A dog who had been stranded on the frozen Detroit River for four days was rescued Saturday. Trevino said Fonzi was stuck on the river in the cold for four days. “Apparently a coyote came off Mud Island and chased him out further into the Detroit River,” Trevino said. As of Saturday the dog was very sick and expected to stay in the animal hospital for at least five days. UPDATE: Dog rescued from frozen Detroit River slowly recoveringThe Woodhaven Animal Hospital provided an update on Facebook Sunday about the dog’s condition and noted it was doing well.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. – A photo of a suspected car thief posted to Facebook helped police in Allen Park apprehend the suspect 20 minutes later. The suspected thief used the victim’s car keys to locate the car while the victim was working at Fairlane Mall and had no idea the car was being taken. Police said the suspect found the victim’s jacket and took the keys to his 2014 Buick Regal. Allen Park police had surveillance video of the suspect and one clear image. Police said Strunk was remorseful but would only say he left the car in Ecorse with the keys still inside.

ECORSE, Mich. – The mayor of Ecorse was re-elected this week and he’s already having to fight for his job. During a city council meeting on Wednesday night, one council member called for Mayor Lamar Tidwell to be removed from office. Mayor pro tem Darcel Brown raised two big issues that he said he was made aware of in an affidavit just a month ago. The Ecorse Public Safety Department is under an FBI public corruption probe. The FBI is strongly hinting that criminal charges could come from how Ecorse police officers handled stolen vehicles.

She is also charge with first degree child abuse for Zion’s injuries. He was charged with first degree murder for Zyaire’s death and two counts of first degree child abuse for the twins.

ECORSE, Mich. – An Ecorse man accused of child abuse appeared in court Wednesday on charges that stem from an incident in July. James Gibson is facing charges in connection to the injuries to Zion Reed, as police and prosecutors continue to investigate the death of the 13-month-old boy’s twin brother, Zyaire Reed. Two days later, the twins' mother, Lisa Reed, was charged with first-degree child abuse. It’s been nearly two months, but Gibson, who fled from the hospital and was later caught by police, has also been arraigned on first-degree child abuse charges. He was convicted of child abuse 15 years ago and had been serving time for carjacking, police said.

At the time the abuse happened Gibson was living with both the child’s twin brother Zyaire Reed and mother Lisa Marie Reed. Zyaire Reed died and Zion Reed survived. “There is simply not much that prepares you for the allegations in this case for 13-month-old twin Zion Reed. The 34-year-old mother has also been charged with first degree child abuse in connection to the surviving child’s case.

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. A $200,000 two-part donation is set to provide masks to about 25,000 children in Wayne County, Wayne County Commission announced Thursday. The Commission approved the donation from Ballmer Giving LLC of Bellevue, Washington. The other half of the donation will be allocated toward the Save-A-Life Program for convalescent plasma donation as a treatment for COVID-19. This is a wonderful gift and we are very grateful to receive it, Commission Chair Alisha Bell said in a news release. According to the release, Ballmer Giving LLC was created by Steve Ballmer, who is the former Microsoft CEO and current Los Angeles Clipper owner.

The vehicle had damage to the rear bumper and tinted windows. The victim managed to get a partial plate number from the vehicle of 16B. Officers are patrolling the area searching for the vehicle.

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with a Van Buren Township home invasion that happened Wednesday afternoon. The attempted home invasion was reported around 12:26 p.m. in the area of Ecorse and Hannan. Police say the man entered the homeowner’s property after removing the lock from the gate and then checked all the doors. The wanted man is described as white, 35-45 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium to heavy build. He was wearing a black and green coat with a US flag on the upper left sleeve, blue jeans and black shoes at the time.

He was arrested later that afternoon at a home in the 2400 block of Electric Street in Southwest Detroit, officials said. Armed robberyIn the robbery case, Miles is accused of targeting a 25-year-old Redford woman at a business in the 2600 block of South Schaefer Street in Detroit, officials said. Miles was riding a bicycle when he pointed a handgun at the woman near Bassett Street and demanded her personal property, police said. He is charged with armed robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and two felony firearm violations.

TAYLOR, Mich. - Taylor police arrested two guys as they were attempting to flee after breaking into Recoil Firearms on Ecorse near Pardee this morning. The alleged suspects, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, broke into the firearms store through a rear entrance, according to police. The front window of the store is also cracked although its not known if that was an original attempt to break in or if it happened while they break-in suspects were in the store. WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. - Destiny the dog was found in Ecorse last month with burn marks on her body and broken teeth from trying to escape. Veterinarians believed she was burned by fireworks and was chained and trapped when she was injured. After treatment, Destiny is doing much better and adjusting to life with her new owner. Her owner, Dana, said Destiny is doing amazing and has gained six pounds. Though Destiny is doing much better, the person who abused her still hasn't been caught.

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. - The success of Project Greenlight in Detroit has two nearby cities looking to copy it. According to the Detroit News, Highland Park and Ecorse are set to install blue lights in city businesses. A $175,000 grant will help pay for 75 cameras in each city. The concept will be similar to Detroit's with cameras installed at gas stations and stores that will be monitored remotely. They will also be equipped with a public address system so people at the scene can talk to operators before police get there.
