Read full article: Sixth-grader from Ann Arbor stars in Food Network’s ‘Kids Baking Championship’ANN ARBOR – For local student Nemo Tsai, 2020 was as normal a year as could be until a casting agent from Food Network reached out to him on Instagram to audition for Season 9 of “Kids Baking Championship.”Nemo’s family has owned Japanese-American fusion restaurant Godaiko and Tsai Grocery in southwest Ann Arbor for more than 25 years. Raised in the kitchen, Nemo was making sushi rolls before he was five years old, and recently took up baking after watching videos on YouTube. “This was the first season that parents get onto the show and react,” said Nemo. ET on Food Network with a double episode. Aside from the title of Kids Baking Champion, the winner of the Kids Baking Championship will take home a grand prize of $25,000 and will get a spot in Food Network Magazine.

Read full article: Discovery's reality-heavy streaming service launches in Jan.Discovery is joining the increasingly crowded streaming fray with its own reality-focused service Discovery Plus that will include shows from the Food Network, HGTV, TLC and its other networks. By comparison, the ad-free Disney Plus costs $7 a month and Netflix' most popular plan costs $14 a month. Discovery CEO David Zaslav first announced the streaming service in late 2019, but did not provide details until now. Discovery Plus joins a slew of new streaming services started to challenge traditional TV providers and dominant streaming services like Hulu and Netflix over the past year, including Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, HBO Max and Comcast’s Peacock service. The service will role out in 25 countries in 2021 including Italy, Spain, U.K. and Ireland as well as India.

Peregrino left his job in the corporate world to pursue a childhood passion for baking. Now he’s 38, and he’s baking professionally on national television. When Food Network’s casting director first reached out to him on Instagram, Peregrino said he thought it was a joke.
