In celebration of “National Retro Day,” Steve Humphreys, the owner of “Vogue Vintage,” in Ferndale paid a visit to “Live in the D.” He discussed the difference between what’s considered vintage and what’s considered antique. “We consider vintage items from 1950′s-1980 ‘s, anything older is an antique,” Humphreys said. Also, retro furniture items usually have a geometric shape. He brought in some really cool items, that will spark up a lot of memories for some. “We remind you of your mom and dad, and grandparents,” said Humphreys. The store has 2 levels of various items including retro clothing, radios and home decor items to name a few. Many people are now mixing these items with their modern decor, making what’s old, cool again.

Murphy beds sold by several retailers including Amazon, Wayfair and Overstock are being recalled because they can become detached, posing serious dangers to consumers.

The company is already announcing store closures and customers are reporting experiencing lengthy delivery delays. ANN ARBOR, Mich. Ann Arbors Avalon Housing has partnered with two organizations to furnish 70 units of affordable housing at Hickory Way Apartments. Working with Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor Foundations Kiwanis Thrift Sale and HouseN2Home, a Ypsilanti-based nonprofit organization, Avalon Housing is trying to furnish each unit for future tenants. Tenants are exiting homelessness and will begin leases and move into Hickory Way units in December, according to a news release. Starting Sept. 15, those wishing to help can take gently used and clean furniture to the Kiwanis Thrift Sale store on North Staebler Road. Avalon Housing is not taking applications for the Hickory Way units.

WARREN, Mich. – Art Van’s closure came as a shock to many of the more than 3,000 employees who now have to consider looking for work. But there’s also a ripple effect when a large company closes, and it’s felt all the way down to small convenience stores in Metro Detroit. Danielle Cvetkovski and her husband own Frank’s Chicken at 14 Mile and Mound roads, just blocks from Art Van’s Warren warehouse. So how does the Art Van closure affect the business? Cvetkovski said she’s not only worried about her business, but also about the Art Van drivers as they look for new employment.

DETROIT – Art Van is closing all its stores, and the sales begin Friday. The furniture giant will begin marking down its inventory immediately, as it all must go. The furniture giant operates under the brands Art Van Furniture, Art Van PureSleep and Scott Shuptrine Interiors. Levin & Wolf Furniture in Ohio and Pennsylvania will be sold to Robert Levin, pending court approval. Eight Wolf Furniture stores in Maryland and Virginia will also be liquidated.

UPDATE: Art Van Furniture to close all stores; liquidation sales begin March 6According to Crain’s Detroit, the private equity owner is looking for a possible buyer for the company and might file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. A representative for Art Van Furniture told Local 4, “We are actively exploring a variety of options with our creditors, investors and landlords to ensure Art Van can continue serving our guests and our communities. It is premature at this time to comment further as no final decisions have been made. In the meantime, our stores are open, and it is business as usual."

DETROIT – Officials have identified the woman who was found dead early Tuesday in a bullet-riddled vehicle on Detroit’s east side. Vanita Denise Gray, 52, was shot multiple times at 1:34 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Hayes and Houston Whitter streets, according to authorities. She was found near Al’s Furniture, which was heavily damaged by bullets. A man was taken into custody, officials said. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-5940 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
