In 2017, the Girl Scouts introduced 70 new STEM badges and over the past year, 127 girls across all age levels earned some of those badges. “I think Girl Scouts are so much more than cookies and crafts,” troop leader Jeni Prahler said. Prahler said that Girl Scouts has evolved immensely since she was a kid. I know when I was a Girl Scout my mom was a leader and she didn’t camp,” Prahler said.

Anxious and angry parents who were reunited with the girls after six days of waiting grabbed their daughters and left after shots rang out. The girls, aged 10 and up, had been abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Jangebe in Nigeria’s northwest Zamfara state and were released Tuesday after negotiations. Following the kidnappings, the Zamfara state government announced a curfew, which remains in force. In December, 344 students were abducted from the Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State.
