At Grosse Pointe South, the varsity girl’s basketball team has begun practicing for the winter season. Other high school winter sports are required to wear masks 100 percent of the time, like wrestling and competitive cheerleading. GROSSE POINTE, Mich. – All students within the Grosse Pointe Public School System (GPPSS) are returning to remote learning next week as coronavirus spread worsens among the community. Students receiving special education programs and services will also switch to a virtual instruction on Monday. Superintendent Gary C. Niehaus says that, similarly to other districts, Grosse Pointe schools are facing staffing issues amid rising COVID-19 cases in Michigan, as teachers are forced to quarantine due to coronavirus exposure. Many marching bands had an unusual and less traditional season this year due to the pandemic. Many, if not most high schools decided to have band camp at their high school instead of going away like in past years. Kristina Kaiser is the varsity cheer coach at Grosse Pointe North High School. Originally she was asked to be the assistant coach for junior varsity and after ten years, Kaiser became the varsity coach of her beloved alma mater. The GPN cheer team is a competitive cheer team.
