METRO DETROIT – Reverend Nicholas Hood, III, along with former Detroit Police Chief Ike McKinnon and other local leaders are urging residents to not bring in the New Year with celebratory gunfire. The campaign was started in 1997 after Sandra Latham, a Detroit grandmother, was killed by celebratory gunfire sitting in her dinning room. Video from Jan. 1, 2020 captured celebratory gunfire for nearly three minutes. Incidents from celebratory gunfire isn’t limited to Metro Detroit. 2020 when celebratory gunfire struck her in the neck.

DETROIT – Two people were shot on southbound M-10 and Linwood Saturday around 2:40 a.m. after attending a Detroit party, police say. When officers arrived to the area after a traffic crash was reported they found a vehicle with several bullet holes. Police later discovered both the victims had checked into Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. According to police after the party the two victims were driving in the area when an unknown car pulled up and someone inside started shooting at them. The victims lost control of their vehicle and struck the wall.

OAK PARK An Oak Park man has been charged in connection with a road rage incident involving gunfire. He was given a $20,000 personal bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 1 p.m. on Aug. 31. According to police, on July 30 at around 5:42 p.m. Ferndale officers responded to the area of eastbound Eight Mile Road near Livernois for a possible shooting. Officers met the complainant in a parking lot near Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. After an investigation Goriel was arrested several hours later by Ferndale police detectives.
