Road work on I-75 is resuming in Oakland County starting Friday and will close all freeway lanes between I-696 and Eight Mile Road over the weekend. When I-75 lanes reopen on March 1, only two lanes will be open in each direction from just south of Eight Mile Road to just north of 13 Mile Road, officials said. AdDuring the weekend road closure, I-75 traffic will be rerouted to the following:Northbound I-75 traffic will be detoured west on Eight Mile Road to northbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound I-696 back to northbound I-75, andSouthbound I-75 traffic will be detoured to westbound I-696 to southbound Woodward Avenue, then eastbound Eight Mile Road back to southbound I-75. After the weekend closures, some lane and ramp closures will continue through the 2021 construction season in connection with the I-75 road work. Also after March 1, all southbound I-75 traffic will be shifted onto northbound lanes near 13 Mile Road to allow for crews to rebuild the southbound I-75 bridge over 13 Mile Road, officials said.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A former detective with the Hazel Park Police Department faced a judge Thursday on suspicion of stealing money meant to help the department. Sean Boucher, 45, of Warren, is accused of embezzling more than $65,000 in public asset forfeiture funds. It took several years for the case to make it to Thursday’s arraignment. Boucher had been under the investigation of the FBI for a while and their findings suggest there’s a clear breach of public trust. Boucher was given a $50,000 personal bond, but he is required to hand over his passport and can’t leave the state of Michigan.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Multiple felony charges have been filed against a Hazel Park police detective on suspicion of conducting a criminal enterprise and embezzling more than $65,000 in public asset forfeiture funds. “As a member of law enforcement, you pledge your professional life to the service of others, which is grounded in trust with the community in which an officer serves,” said attorney general Dana Nessel. The public asset forfeiture funds are used to support law enforcement operations through training, equipment and other resources. AdAuthorities allege Boucher embezzled about $68,000 for his own personal use over the course of several incidents between 2013 and 2017. Police said Boucher was placed on administrative leave Sept. 11, 2017 by the Hazel Park Police Department and suspended the following day.

DETROIT – Amazon is building several fulfillment centers in southeastern Michigan. In addition to the previously announced fulfillment center at the old State Fairgrounds in Detroit, Amazon is planning to build fulfillment centers in Hazel Park, Huron Township and Pontiac. FERNDALE, Mich. – A police chase that started in Hazel Park ended with a violent crash in Ferndale on Friday. A white Hyundai Sonata was pulled over by police in Hazel Park for a traffic violation. The crash ended on the Ferndale side of 8 Mile Road, not far from the State Fairgrounds in Detroit. After the crash a man ran across the street and was taken into custody. His passenger ran further into Ferndale and is still at large.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A Hazel Park man accused of attempting to sexually assault a 17-year-old girl faced a judge Friday. Police said 29-year-old Darryl Tellis approached the teen Monday night as she was walking near Hazel Park High School and tried to assault her. Police said the teen was armed with a taser and struck him with it twice. The judge set Tellis' bond at $450,000. You can watch the full report in the video above.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A 29-year-old Hazel Park man is accused of attacking a 17-year-old girl and trying to force her to have sex with him. The incident happened at about 9 p.m. Monday near Hazel Park High School. Police said the man approached the teen as she was walking and guided her to the baseball field of the high school where he tried to sexually assault her. Police said the teen pulled out a taser and struck the man twice. The man was later arrested at a nearby gas station.

The Marijuana Regulatory Agency (MRA) announced Thursday a recall on contaminated pre-rolls from retail outlets at Bay City, Hazel Park, Detroit, Traverse City, Ann Arbor, Lansing, River Rouge, Ferndale, Quincy, Lowell, Negaunee and Lapeer. According to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), the investigation was initiated on July 31. Consumers who have any of the contaminated pre-rolls in their possession should return them to the retailer where they were purchased for proper disposal. Consumers who have experienced symptoms after using these products should report their symptoms and product use to their physician. DETROIT Detroit resident Shawn A. Patterson, 22, has been charged in connection with a fatal car crash that killed two people. The victims are 26-year-old Hazel Park resident Leon Freeman and 33-year-old Detroit resident Teon Williams. Police and medics arrived at the crash scene and the two victims were dead. The suspect has been charged with two counts each of reckless driving causing death; failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death and moving violation causing death. Fatal car crashes have increased exponentially over the past year, most as a result of carelessness, recklessness, or gross negligence by the driver that caused the event.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – The vehicle of a Ferndale resident trying to flee police Friday was shot at by an officer. The driver of the vehicle was alone when the Hazel Park officer approached her. Another female officer observed the vehicle pull into a residential driveway on Carlisle south of Woodward Heights. When the officer approached the vehicle from the back, the driver started reversing. A third officer arrived and followed the vehicle to W. Woodward Heights and N. Chrysler Service Drive.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A Hazel Park man is accused of strangling his wife to death -- because she accused him of cheating on her -- and then sleeping with her body in the bed for a week, police said. Police officers and firefighters went to the home and found Klepsch, 64, dead in her bed. The Hazel Park police chief said Sherwood admitted to striking, kicking and strangling his wife. They had been arguing because Klepsch accused him of infidelity, according to authorities. Sherwood was arraigned Monday at 43rd District Court in Hazel Park on charges on a first-degree murder charge.

The man called Ferndale police, who said Madison Heights police gave them information that linked the break-in to similar crimes. They were being investigated for doing this sort of thing and has a warrant in Madison Heights for doing the same thing," said Sgt. Madison Heights officers provided Ferndale police with descriptions of a vehicles and suspects connected to the crimes in their city.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A controversial new program that tracks and monitors every move students make on their computers is becoming more prominent in schools. The program is called “Gaggle,” and its goal is to prevent bullying, violence and suicides. The software works by looking for bullying, violence or suicidal thoughts and notifying administrators when it flags a problem. But Gaggle officials say the program looks at school computers and accounts, not personal ones. Gaggle officials said the program prevented 722 suicides last year.

LANSING, Mich. – Preliminary test results from drinking water and groundwater announced Friday indicate that contamination from the polluted Madison Heights Electro-Plating Services facility are neither impacting drinking water nor moving southward from the site. Test results from Madison Heights municipal water released this morning show no contaminants exceeding drinking water standards, a consultant for the city reported. Initial soil and surface water testing showed no evidence that contaminants were dumped on the property. Officials also discussed logistics for a public informational briefing on the Electro-Plating Services emergency response in Madison Heights that is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 3.
