The gift was made as a match program so that any year-end gift to UWWCโ€™s Community Impact Fund will be matched. In March, the Song Foundation committed $1 million to the Office of Community and Economic Development of Washtenaw County to establish an emergency relief fund for small local businesses. ANN ARBOR โ€“ In mid-November, it was announced that Recycle Ann Arbor received significant investments to rebuild its materials sorting facility that had been closed since 2016. Recycle Ann Arbor came up with the rest in the largest-ever fundraising effort for the 40-year-old organization. CEO of Recycle Ann Arbor, Bryan Ukena, said the new state-of-the-art facility will eliminate the need to send the cityโ€™s recyclables across state lines. Recycle Ann Arbor will be using the shell of that building for its new facility, and will install all new equipment. The land is owned by the city, and Recycle Ann Arbor has a ground lease to lease the land and outer building.

ANN ARBOR โ€“ Recycle Ann Arbor was selected by the American Beverage Association to receive an $800,000 investment under its Every Bottle Back initiative to rebuild and reopen the cityโ€™s shuttered recycling facility. The closure of the cityโ€™s Materials Recovery Facility in 2016 subsequently diverted the processing of recyclable materials -- including the industryโ€™s 100% recyclable polyethylene terephthalate plastic bottles --across state lines. โ€œLocal processing of recyclables brings a range of environmental, economic, and social benefits, creating a regional hub that will allow recycling to flourish,โ€ Bryan Ukena, CEO of Recycle Ann Arbor said in a statement. ANN ARBOR Amazon has made the first corporate gift to the University of Michigans Accelerate Blue Fund, a philanthropic venture fund aimed at investing in and commercializing technologies developed at the U-M. Accelerate Blue will make investments in U-M tech startups working on various technologies in areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, mobility and sustainability. Returns on investments go back into the fund which creates a source for evergreen funding -- funding that is done incrementally. Through the $200,000 donation from Amazon, Accelerate Blue has collected around $1 million, half of its 2020 goal. The Accelerate Blue Fund was approved by the Universitys Board of Regents in October 2019 and created by University of Michigan Tech Transfer, a U-M unit responsible for commercializing U-M research discoveries.

Deerfield has committed up to $130 million over the next decade in biomedical research at U-M. The University of Michigan has a strong legacy of drug discovery and translation, Rebecca Cunningham, U-M vice president for research said in a news release. Great Lakes Discoveries will support all preclinical stages of drug development and discovery.
