It’s taking a while to get precipitation going Thursday afternoon across much of Metro Detroit; This is good news for at least the beginning of the evening commute.

High winds are the big story Thursday evening in Metro Detroit. The highest wind gusts reported as of 4 p.m. have been in the 45mph range. A wind advisory remains in effect for areas south of M-59 until 10 p.m. tonight.

A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of Metro Detroit on Wednesday, and the rest of the area is now under a winter weather advisory.

No question that it’s been a mild start to January, but could we get a few gusty thunderstorms Thursday? It looks like we really could.

A couple of wet snowflakes/drizzle is expected over the next few hours. Otherwise, clouds will begin to move out Saturday, giving us some much-needed sunshine!

You’ve undoubtedly heard by now about that big western storm system that is generating everything from tornadoes to blizzard conditions.

We’re in the middle of a four-day stretch of very cooperative shopping weather. Sure, it’s been cloudier than we’d like, not the prettiest days. But dry roads, light wind, and typical temperatures for this time of year sure don’t hurt the “shop ‘til you drop” crowd!

After an absolutely beautiful day for Thanksgiving across the region with plenty of sunshine, we do have some changes moving into the region as we work into the evening and overnight hours Thursday night.

The weather looks great if you’re headed out to family and friends Wednesday night and not just here in Michigan but all over the country.

You will get a second chance this week if you put off your fall yard cleanup. Any snow on the ground should melt away this week with temps in the 40s to near 50 by Thanksgiving.

Winter is still about a month away, but it’s making an early appearance this weekend with some more snow that will add up, and a blast of cold temperatures and gusty winds.

It’s beginning to look a lot like, well, you know how that song ends. It’s not even Thanksgiving yet, and an arctic airmass is about to make for a wintry weekend here in Metro Detroit.

In the weather center now watching a band of moderate to heavy snow that’s reducing visibility along I-94 from Detroit to Ann Arbor. If you’re traveling in these areas between 6:30 p.m. until around 8 p.m.

I’m all settled into the weather center after finishing the 6 p.m. newscast. I just ordered soup and plan on a cozy night watching snow on Exact Track 4D radar. Hopefully, you’re at home for the night, but if you do need to travel, here’s what you can expect.

A cold front is moving a bit faster than earlier model runs predicted. It will bring a chance for showers late afternoon and early Saturday evening. More on that in a moment.

Even though we’ve already had our first snowflakes, that doesn’t mean we can’t still see temps return to the 70s.

We don’t get many days like that in late October, let alone a run of five in a row (Friday through Tuesday), so this is extraordinary. I took advantage of the gorgeous weather and got some outdoor chores done, then pulled up a chair on my patio Sunday afternoon, turned the flat screen TV in my family room so it faced the patio, and then sanded a beautiful Petoskey stone while watching the Detroit Lions game.

After a great week with cold temperatures, we’ve had plenty of sunshine to end our week, with temperatures running 25 to 30° warmer than we were on Thursday. And we’ll keep that warm weather in the forecast as we head into the weekend.

After one more day of these damp, cold, windy conditions, a nice warm-up begins for Metro Detroit.

A few isolated showers north of Detroit are now starting to wind down this evening. Most areas are dry, with clouds thinning out as we head into the overnight hours. A chilly night ahead, with temps dropping to 38 in the city and slightly cooler in the suburbs.

A cold front is moving through Wednesday evening, bringing high winds and some decent downpours between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Any storms that develop will have the potential to produce 40-50mph wind gusts and fairly heavy rainfall.

A chilly night ahead, but not as cold as the last several nights. Temperatures drop into the mid-40s in most areas under clear skies—perfect weather for viewing the Space Station Flyby at 7:56 p.m. Look WNW for about seven minutes. The Space Station will then disappear into the southeast sky.

There’s no frost advisory Monday night, and temperatures are expected to stay around 42 degrees in Detroit -- the upper 30s in the suburbs.

As I write this, Hurricane Ian is making its second landfall in two days, with the South Carolina coast bearing the brunt. As the storm progresses up the east coast, we’ll be on the fringe of its moisture shield, so expect our mostly clear skies Friday evening to become partly cloudy on Saturday.

Drier air is moving in, and we will clear out Thursday night. The clear skies combined with light wind will allow temps to drop into the low-40s (5 to 6 degrees Celsius) with a north-northeast wind at 2 to 5 mph. Some rural spots, especially those areas that start the night clear, could touch the upper-30s (4 degrees Celsius). A few areas of locally dense fog are also possible late at night.

A warm front is lifting through the area bringing a few showers and thunderstorms this evening and possibly a couple more overnight; Not expecting severe weather, but heavy rain could cause some localized street flooding. If you are traveling overnight, just watch for areas of high water, especially on freeways.

To start our Monday morning, Exact Track 4D Radar at the time I am writing this (3:15 a.m.) shows a compact batch of showers with briefly heavy rain tracking eastward from western lower Michigan.

Thursday is the last night with temps in the upper 50s as a significant warm-up is on track for the weekend and next week.

Another cool, comfortable night here in Metro Detroit, as skies will be mostly clear and radiational cooling, take our lows into the mid to upper 50s.

A couple of cool, cloudy days to start the work week, but then we get into a very stable weather pattern with partly cloudy skies and a pretty decent warm-up on the horizon.

Slight change to the weekend forecast as computer models are now bringing in a chance of an isolated shower a bit earlier than previous models predicted. Although most of the area stays dry, there is a chance for a spotty shower or two as early as Saturday afternoon. Nothing to change your plans over as of now.

We are officially over the hump, and it’s time to start planning for the weekend. Saturday is looking like the better day for outdoor plans. More on that in a moment, but first, let’s talk about the heat.

What a great summer day we had for the first day of September; Abundant sunshine, temperatures that reached the low-80s (27 to 28 degrees Celsius), and low humidity made for a spectacular Thursday.

A few showers and storms continue to move through the area Thursday afternoon and are at times giving way to some heavy rain. Over the next few days, though, more dry time is expected, with the bigger story becoming the heat and humidity.

That was an impressive line of storms late Wednesday creating dozens of severe storm reports from wind damage to hail and super soaking cells.

A pleasant Tuesday is in the books, but changes are on the way for what looks like a very active Wednesday.

The storms that are moving through the area this afternoon are scattered in nature, but some are on the strong side. The severe threat will be there through the afternoon, with strong damaging winds being our biggest concern. This activity should exit our area by 6 p.m. Then, we look forward to a dry and quiet night ahead. Temperatures overnight drop into the lower to middle 60s.

The chance for rain continues for a little bit longer, but after we get rid of the rain, we look ahead to what should be a great weekend.

Tuesday is filled with terrific weather again; It is warm and comfortable with abundant sunshine. Tuesday night becomes cooler. Wednesday has a slight chance of rain. The end of the week and the weekend will be bright and summer-like.

We have magnificent weather for the rest of the day; It is warm, bright, and comfortable, and Monday night will be cool and lovely. Tuesday’s weather will be just as marvelous, with much-needed rain arriving mid-week.
