Some Michigan counties are issuing local emergency orders to ensure coronavirus safety measures continue after the state Supreme Court struck down months of orders made by Gov. This is a public health advisory from the St. Clair County Health Department, not a mandate. Click here to read more about Washtenaw County’s recent emergency public health orders. The county health department issued another emergency order on Oct. 9 clarifying that some of Gov. Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans said the Wayne County Public Health Division and his administration continue to review the state Supreme Court’s ruling.

As of Thursday, Sept. 10, EEE has been confirmed in 19 horses in nine Michigan counties including Barry, Clare, Isabella, Jackson, Kent, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo and Oakland. To date, no human cases have been identified. In 2019, there were 10 human cases of EEE in Michigan, which is equal to the total number of cases in the previous 10 years combined. Last year, Michigan accounted for 25 percent of the EEE cases nationally. Less than two weeks ago, Michigan was moved from “medium” to “high” risk for a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak by Covid Act Now. Experts recommend that at least 90 percent of new COVID-19 cases are traced within 48 hours to contain the virus. Covid Act Now’s research shows that Michigan is still doing fairly well with COVID-19 testing. Michigan’s lowest positive test rates were seen in early June and were around 1.1 percent, according to Covid Act Now. MICHIGAN – The first West Nile virus activity for Michigan in 2020 has been reported in a captive hawk from Lapeer County. Residents are reminded that the best way to protect themselves against West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses, including Eastern Equine Encephalitis, is to prevent mosquito bites. Last year, West Nile virus (WNV) sickened 12 Michiganders, and 20 animals and birds. To date, there has not been EEE detected in Michigan, however this virus is typically detected later in the summer. Mosquitoes that transmit West Nile virus may breed near people’s homes in storm drains, shallow ditches, retention ponds and unused pools.

Michigan lawmaker traveling to White House to request clemency for Kwame KilpatrickPublished: February 27, 2020, 12:09 pmA Michigan lawmaker will visit the White House to request clemency for former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Michigan State Representative Sherry Gay-Dagnogo will travel to Washington D.C., as a part of a Black History Month event. In an email newsletter, Rep. Gay-Dagnogo says she was invited by President Trump to attend the event and will discuss possible clemency for the former Detroit mayor. She says she will be delivering a letter to President Trump “signed by several Detroit Caucus Members, Elected Officials, and Ecumenical Leaders.”
