DETROIT โ€“ Eastbound I-94 at Woodward Avenue in Detroit was closed Monday afternoon as the result of a bullet casings search from a shooting, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. MDOT announced the closure and search for the bullet casings around 2 p.m. Monday. Shortly after 4 p.m. Monday the area was back open. A tow truck driver reported he was shot at by the suspect. State police say this was a road rage shooting and the suspect pulled off to the side of the freeway and started firing shots at the tow truck driver.

He was last seen wearing a neon green face mask, blue Polo shirt, camouflage pants and light green Nike shoes. DETROIT โ€“ The Detroit Police Department is seeking the publicโ€™s assistance in locating a man wanted in connection with a robbery that happened on the cityโ€™s east side. On Sept. 10 at around 5:20 p.m. in the 14300 block of Harper in Detroit, a 49-year-old store employee witnessed an unknown man attempting to leave the location with merchandise in his pockets. During the situation the robber pulled out a box cutter which led to the employee backing off. The robber is described as a black man in the middle to late 40s, 6 feet tall and weighs 215 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call the Detroit Police Departmentโ€™s 9th Precinct at 313-596-5940 or Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up.

Pictures of memories are all Katie Sarah has of her niece following the tragic ATV crash. โ€œHeard that an animal jumped in front of the ATV, she swerved, misses the animal,โ€ said Sarah. DETROIT โ€“ Oakland County Circuit Judge Hala Jarbou is expected to become the first Chaldean American to serve on a federal bench, according to leaders in the community. On Thursday, the US Senate confirmed her nomination to serve as a federal judge in western Michigan during a 83 to 15 vote. She has an immigrant success story and traces her roots to Telkaif, Iraq. Before that she served in the Oakland County Prosecutorโ€™s office, working primarily in the Circuit Court Division. Jarbou earned her bachelorโ€™s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan and her law degree from Wayne State University Law School.

Police say a 30-year-old man in a black Dodge Charger allegedly fired shots at several people who were selling food in the area. The shooter fled the scene afterward. When officers responded to the scene to investigate the shooter returned and allegedly started firing shots at officers and others who were present. He fled the scene, which led to a police chase. During the police chase the shooter hit two vehicles before getting out of his car and running away on foot.

Police say a shot was fired around 3 p.m. as officers tried stopping a man. Police say as the man ran from police he pulled out a gun. When officers heard the gun go off they grabbed the man and arrested him. According to police, although the gun went off, the man was not intentionally trying to target officers.

DETROIT โ€“ More than 40 protesters were taken into custody Saturday night as they blocked off Woodward Avenue between John R. Street and Grand River Avenue. About 100 people gathered on Woodward Avenue in a protest against โ€œOperation Legendโ€ -- an initiative established to address increasing gun and gang violence in cities across the U.S., including in Detroit. The group Detroit Will Breathe has expressed their opposition to the initiative, which brings additional federal agents to Detroit and other participating U.S. cities. Saturday nightโ€™s protest in Downtown Detroit went smoothly, for the most part, until about midnight. A Detroit Police Department spokesperson said half of the people arrested were not from the city of Detroit.

DETROIT Local leaders are weighing in on the national conversation about defunding police departments. Well, Im totally against defunding the police, said Detroit Police Chief James Craig. You talk about taking money from police departments, most departments across this country, anywhere between 70 and 80 percent of a departments budget goes to staffing, and so to take funding away means to take away police, added Craig. At its most basic level, defunding police means taking money away from a department to give to another government agency. Dr. Randall Wyatt, a sociology professor at Oakland University, says that if done right, defunding the police would help officers.

DETROIT โ€“ The US Attorneyโ€™s office in Detroit has charged 39-year-old Brandi Hawkins of Detroit as a key figure in a scheme to defraud the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency of millions of dollars. Hawkins was hired as a contract worker for the stateโ€™s unemployment agency in April 2020. The feds say she used her access to sign off on $2 million in fraudulently filed claims. When federal agents went to her Detroit home they found $200,000 in cash and numerous new high end luxury items. The federal investigation is ongoing in tracking down everybody who received fraudulent funds as part of the scheme.

DETROIT Tuesday afternoon police were called out to a home on Rutherford near the intersection of Rutherford and Pembroke following a family argument that could have turned deadly. Both, the woman involved and her baby where taken to the hospital by the alleged shooter believed to be the victims own brother. Right now were looking for the person of interest that is believed to be the shooter, said Commander, Patterson. Patterson says this just echoes the need for people to work their differences out with words and not weapons. Thank God that the baby and the mother are listed as going to be alright.
