Luckily, there are several local pools, splash pads, and water slides that are perfect for some fun in the sun. We check out the many options at our local Metroparks.

ANN ARBOR – The outdoor public pools at Fuller Park, Buhr Park and Veterans Memorial Park will be open this summer, the city of Ann Arbor announced in an email to its pool users on Tuesday. The city opened Fuller Park pool last summer at a very limited capacity for lap swimming to ensure social distancing while the Buhr and Vets pools remained closed. In order to provide safe programming this year, swim lessons and day camps will take place at designated pools. All three pools will be offering family spaces and lap lanes by reservation as well as bungee swimming opportunities at Fuller and Buhr. ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Doors to the Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center will reopen on Tuesday. Only members will be allowed to use the facility, according to a release by Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission. The weight room, cardio room, track and gymnasium will have individual capacity limits. The recreation center will have limited hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays for extra cleaning. The Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center is at 2960 Washtenaw Ave.

For that reason, its not necessary to wear gloves to work-out. Many gyms might encourage employees or guests to wear gloves, but Local 4s Dr. Frank McGeorge said he doesnt personally feel that gloves offer much of a benefit and may cause people to wash their hands or use sanitizer less often.

Parents need to be keeping safety top of mind while new pools are popping up across Michigan this summer. The pool sales and installation industry is booming with new pools going in at what feels like a record rate. Experts say parents need to know the proper safety protocols for children. Pool safety:The risk of coronavirus at the pool isnt from the water, its from the people. The less people at the pool, the less risk of virus. The CDC says the coronavirus will not survive in a well-kept pool. The virus can survive on surfaces, so pool staff should be cleaning surfaces often -- gates, chairs, etc. Sunlight will kill the virus on playground surfaces, but take along hand sanitizer, too.

With so many of us working from home, its more important than ever to keep an eye on your children near your pool, your neighbors pool or the community pool. Last year, Local 4 tested out the Safety Turtle, which we found at a local pool store. We found the Safety Turtle took a few minutes to sound the alarm. The Pooleye Pool Alarm can be set up on the side of your pool, the stairs, or a railing. When set on the low setting it look a while for the alarm to sound, when turned up it sensed movement quickly.

DETROIT – Health officials have ordered public swimming pools in Southeast Michigan to close to mitigate the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). The Detroit Health Department Wayne County Public Health Division, Oakland County Health Division and the Macomb County Health Department all issued orders requiring public swimming pools to close indefinitely. The aim of the closures is to reduce the potential spread of coronavirus. Pools pose a low risk of transmitting COVID-19, but health officials are concerned about people not being able to maintain social distancing.
