United States Space Command is a unified combatant command of the United States Department of Defense. STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – It may sound preposterous, but when you consider the federal government is looking for a U.S. Space Command headquarters, city officials with Sterling Heights said the area is looking to innovate Michigan’s defense corridor. The new Space Force does the training and the Space Command does the deploying when it gets more fully developed. That’s why Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor raised his hand and filed his paperwork Tuesday. “Aside from the 1,400-1,500 jobs that I’ve heard it would employ at the headquarters, it would be huge accomplishment for the city of Sterling Heights,” Taylor said.

The nomination request was signed by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. “When the City’s nomination is scored, we are confident that Sterling Heights will be a prime location for the headquarters for the United States Space Command,” said Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor. “There is a rich heritage in this region for defense assets and this is a strong foundation for this new undertaking.”United States Space Command is a unified combatant command of the United States Department of Defense. “As our state explores the feasibility of landing the United States Space Command in our community, we stand ready to illustrate our competitive advantage and showcase the inspiring capabilities we have right here in Macomb.”READ: Trump touts logo for new Space Force, with nod to Star Trek“As part of this nomination process, we have done an extensive review of the United States Space Command competition criteria,” said Maj. DETROIT – The Selfridge Air National Guard Base will conduct a flyover in Metro Detroit on Wednesday afternoon, one day after the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A reward for information is offered after lasers were pointed at two Selfridge-based helicopters while they were flying in St. Clair County and Macomb County. The crews of both helicopters safely landed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coast Guard Investigative Service’s CGIS TIPS app, available free on Apple’s app store and Google Play. Officials are also seeking information about a laser that was pointed at a Coast Guard helicopter in Chesterfield Township on March 17. Officials noted that if a Coast Guard helicopter is on a rescue mission and a member of the aircrew is compromised by lasers, the mission must be aborted.

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Macomb County will not receive F-35 planes that President Donald Trump said he was considering sending there. Wisconsin will receive the planes. Macomb County has been trying to get F-35s to the base for years. A campaign was launched in 2017, but the federal government decided to send the planes somewhere else. Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice S. Miller released a statement about the decision to not select Selfridge:“We are disappointed at the news that Selfridge Air National Guard Base was not selected as an F-35 base.
