The drive began in March as a way for Michigan Medicine to collect much-needed personal protective equipment for its staff when supplies were low nationwide. In the spring and fall drives, Michigan Medicine and Food Gatherers raised the equivalent of 128,000 meals for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in Washtenaw County. According to Food Gatherers, cash donations are the most flexible option since it allows the organization to buy in bulk at reduced prices. PPE is not needed at this time at Michigan Medicine.
