YPSILANTI, Mich. – Opening up a restaurant during a global pandemic is a risk, but the owners of Blazin’ Burgerz decided it was now or never. Located on Ellsworth Rd, the fast-casual restaurant is operated by 23-year-old Farook Issa and his friend Khaled Naser. The two have been friends since middle school and have worked together at family-owned restaurants for the past five years. On Friday, when Blazin’ Burgerz held its grand opening, eaters were so eager to try the new smash burgers that wait times were up to an hour-and-a-half. Menu items range from smash burgers and chicken sandwiches to hotdogs, fries and macaroni and cheese bites.

It is no secret that we love our Coney Island restaurants. That place is called Antonio’s Coney Island. What sets Antonio’s apart is that along with traditional diner fare, they offer the most authentic dishes from the country of Honduras. Serrano is from Honduras and wanted to introduce people to her country’s cuisine and offer people a bit of variety. She joined Tati Amare from her restaurant to talk about its unique menu and the fresh dishes they serve.

Southfield The 4th of July Holiday is all about backyard BBQs, and this year, why not make it easy on yourself and get takeout? For this weeks Takeout Tuesday we have one of our favorites, Arkins Sweet BBQ Pit in Southfield. Karana recalls that they started with one small smoker and soon tripled the size just to keep up with demand. Arkins Sweet BBQ Pit goes through between 800 and 1,100 pounds of meat a day! They are located at 30140 Southfield Road in Southfield.

Social distancing at restaurants means more space and empty chairs. One restaurant in Royal Oak is getting into the spirit by having guests dine with ghosts. Abiding by social distancing rules, guests will be seated 6 ft apart. There will also be ghosts at the empty tables to make the restaurant appear less empty and make it more fun.
