McCoin was playing a bit of defense Tuesday night during a virtual meeting as she explained the new transgender policy had been under consideration for quite some time. What the change meansThe change allows transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms that they identify with. The board president also pointed to communities such as Ann Arbor where they have a similar transgender policy and have not had any issues.

She was fired from IBM in 1968 before the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2020 that transgender people are included in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. โPretty much immediately fired,โ Conway recalled. โBecause of what happened, the way it happened, I didnโt see my kids again until they were adults,โ Conway said. In 2020, 52 years after Conway was fired, IBM awarded her with a lifetime achievement award and apologized.
