The “Visions” art exhibition will feature artworks by local African American artists on display in the main lobby of the Southfield City Hall. An opening reception is Friday, February 24, and the exhibit runs through April 28.

This weekend there’s a variety of events on tap, starting with a pre-weekend Jazz event. “In the Tradition,” jazz ensemble has a performance at the Aretha Jazz Cafe, located inside the Detroit Music Hall. The 10 piece band based in Detroit describes its sound as jazz, with an African centered perspective. The concert is tonight at 8pm.

If you plan to attend one or both of the next two Detroit Red Wings games at Little Caesars Arena, get ready to celebrate. The Wings will celebrate the 1997 Stanley Cup Championship during Thursday’s 7pm game but you’ll want to be in your seats by 6pm to catch the special celebration. Then on Saturday there will be a celebration for the 1998 Stanley Cup Championship. The game is at 1pm, but you’ll want to be seated by noon for the special event. More than 30 players, coaches and staff from that time are coming back to Detroit for the festivities. Commemorative merchandise will be available in the team store. If you can’t make the games, there’s a new exhibit featuring the stories of the 1997 Red Wings opening Saturday November 5 at the Detroit Historical Museum in Midtown.

This weekend Campus Marius Park in Downtown Detroit transforms into a Bavarian Bierhaus for Parktoberfest. The event celebrates German culture and will feature food trucks, live music, a Biergarten pavilion with beers and games and kids activities. The Fest is happening Saturday September 10 and Sunday September 11.

The ballpark that usually hosts the Detroit Tigers will play host to some big name musicians all weekend long. The park is being transformed to an open-air concert stadium and will feature Chris Stapleton on Friday, Billy Joel performs on Saturday, and on Sunday fans can rock out with Def Leppard and Motley Cru.
