Thursday’s weather scenario unfolded exactly as expected, and we are now transitioning into a colder temperature regime that will bring periodic snow showers (and possibly a few drops) across the area today under cloudy skies.  Temperatures should remain in the mid-to-upper 30s (3 degrees Celsius) today with a southwest wind at 8 to 13 mph.

With the Christmas holiday right around the corner, it’s time to take a look at what are historical chances of a White Christmas are across Southeast Michigan.

It’s a chilly one around Metro Detroit as skies cleared enough overnight to allow temps to dip down into the mid 20s as you head out and about without much in the way of wind or wind chills.

Cool air and a cool breeze combine for a cold start to your Monday morning around Metro Detroit with temps in the mid to upper 20s to near 30F feeling more like teens to low 20s as our wind chill.

It's not just old rock stars benefiting from the current trend of artists selling off rights to their work.

We’ll still have some snow showers to deal with tonight, although they should gradually diminish after midnight. Becoming partly cloudy for part of our Saturday night, with lows near 20 degrees (-7 degrees Celsius). Temperatures slowly falling through the 30s…probably into the low 30s by late afternoon (0 degrees Celsius). Mostly sunny on Tuesday, with highs near 30 degrees (-12 degrees Celsius). Mostly cloudy and breezy with scattered snow showers possible on Friday, with highs in the low 30s (0 degrees Celsius).

Christmas Day remains snowy. Snow showers return Thursday evening, to prep Santa and his sleigh for a good landing overnight. Christmas Day is a White Christmas in my book. Sunday rounds out the last weekend before Christmas, and will continue to have overcast skies. A fast-moving clipper-like system will zip across the area with rain and snow showers Monday. Afternoon temperatures reach the middle and upper 30s. Tomorrow will be cloudy, chilly but dry. After a bit of sunshine the middle of next week, slippery weather, including snow, returns for Christmas Eve and part of Christmas Day. Monday afternoon will be mostly cloudy and chilly with light snow and rain returning. But starting in the mid-afternoon Saturday, expect some rain and snow showers, transitioning to rain as temperatures will max out in the upper 30s. Lake-effect snow showers behind the organized snow could add to those totals somewhat. But whatever falls on the 24th will likely be around for Christmas Day. More lake-effect snow showers are possible Friday, too. Christmas Day will be even colder with highs in the mid 20s.

DETROIT – Expect an active forecast going into the Christmas holiday, as the snow potential is starting to ramp up. Most of the moisture from that system should hang out in the northern part of the state, but rain and snow showers are possible. White Christmas chanceTemperatures will start dropping on Christmas Eve after a relatively mild start to next week. Highs will stay below freezing on Dec. 24, so some late rain and snow Wednesday will transition to all snow by Thursday morning. Plus, with Christmas Day highs only reaching the mid-20s, whatever does show up Thursday will likely hang around even past the official measurement time of 7 a.m. Expect some flurries on Christmas Day.

As for today, I think we’ll only see occasional flurries or light snow showers, with no impact on our roads. Highs will struggle to get to freezing (32 degrees -- 0 degrees Celsius), with a north wind at 5 to 10 mph. Mostly cloudy Thursday night, with lows in the mid 20s (-4 degrees Celsius). So right now, I think we’ll start the day mostly cloudy, become partly cloudy for a few hours, then become mostly cloudy again. Highs Saturday should get to near 40 degrees (4 to 5 degrees Celsius), and highs Sunday in the upper 30s (3 to 4 degrees Celsius).

DETROIT – Happy finally Friday, the last day of Fall 2019! Milky sunshine this afternoon with temperatures in the middle to upper 30s and lighter winds. Look for clouds in the morning giving way to Saturday sunshine through the afternoon as highs hit the lower 40s with light winds SW 5-12 mph. It’s going to be close to that on Monday around Metro Detroit with tons of sunshine, and we will stay in those 40s with dry weather through Christmas. No big storms coming our way, so there is seemingly no chance for a White Christmas in Detroit.
