DETROIT – A woman brake checked a driver behind her and then fired shots at the car during a road rage incident on I-96 in Detroit, police said.

Investigators said a dispute arose between the drivers of a Chrysler 200 and a 2014 Dodge Charger. Both cars were heading east on the highway.

The driver of the Charger went in front of the Chrysler 200 and slammed on her brakes, officials said.

Afterwards, while the Chrysler 200 was in the middle lane and the Charger was in the left lane, the driver of the Charger reached across and fired shots at the Chrysler 200 with a black handgun, according to police.

None of the shots struck the Chrysler 200 or its driver, authorities said.

Police described the driver of the Charger as a woman in her mid-30s.

Officials are closing eastbound I-96 Express at M-39 to search for shell casings, they said. Drivers should expect delays in the area.

The investigation continues.
