Portions of I-96 in Oakland County will be closed this weekend while crews install overhead signs for the I-96 Flex Route project.
Signs are being installed before traffic is restored back to its normal eastbound and westbound configuration for the winter months.
Eastbound I-96 will be closed from Milford to Novi roads from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, and 4 - 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, for overhead sign installation.
Traffic will be detoured via southbound Milford Road to eastbound Grand River Avenue, then northbound Novi Road back to eastbound I-96. Local traffic can use Novi Road to enter eastbound I-96.
Westbound I-96 will have one lane open from Wixom to Kent Lake roads from 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, until 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12.
Additional closures will be needed next weekend (Nov. 18-19) for additional preparation work.
MDOT expects this year’s work will be complete by early December. Both directions of I-96 will be reopened to three lanes and the ramps will be reopened.
Construction will resume in March 2024.
